Came here to meet family half way from Wales. After all the great reviews, I decided to book here for lunch. I wish I hadn't and I should have gone with my initial instinct when I called to book. The person (male) that I spoke to on the phone was rude and abrupt when taking my booking. The guy that greeted us and showed us our table was pleasant. Very much on the ball, took our drinks order instantly and our food order. The lady who served our food was so rude. She kept checking to see if she could clear our table, as soon as our plates were cleared, she brought the bill and the card machine. We weren't offered any more drinks or asked if we wanted anything else. I enquired about dessert and they're currently doing a limited menu due to Covid, which is absolutely fine. We then continued to have a bit of a chat after paying our bill and the same lady kept coming over to check to see if she could relay our table. We felt so uncomfortable. She then told us our table was booked out in 20 mins time, which was fine and meant that we were allocated the table for 1 hour 45. We had no problem with this, but it would have been really helpful to have been told beforehand and with the right attitude. In the end, we just left as we felt so uncomfortable and for me, it ruined our family meet up. The food is average, portion sizes are huge (which I can imagine a lot of food goes to waste), and the service and attitude of some staff is appalling. I'm really surprised at the high reviews...

Another visit to the Rolls and a day when the weather was okay. They had done us a deal to help through a day of torrential rain in April. Let's deal with the course, the first 2 holes are average but welcome you to the other 16. The other 16 have some really interesting greens matched with some difficult fareways. Some greens take alot of reading so take your time and some holes need to be played a couple of times before you realise where you should be going. I've played (or walked) the front 9 so now my way fairly well but no idea on the back 9. The course is an ideal society course to test those handicaps but I'm afraid my HI does stand up to being tested on here at the moment. Clubhouse : this is where I have a problem! The course is well worth revisiting but guys !! I want a shower in a decent area when I've finished! Not good enough. The catering and bar was excellent, with one particular member of staff running about dealing with every problem a large group (28) had, people arriving late, the organiser busy, etc The Pro shop: very good, the only improvement would be, tell me where I'm going wrong! All taken into account, take your day out, Captains away day, society, etc here it's definitely worth it (Rolls please improve...

Visited here for drinks only on a sunny saturday afternoon in June. This was the pub on our British Pubs Calendar for July 2019. The place was very busy outside as the weather was warm and sunny.. The pub from the outside looked all fresh and inviting unfortunately inside the place a little tired looking and was empty save for a couple of obvious regulars sat at the bar and a couple of folks buying drinks to take outside.. Four of us went in and had a beer.. nothing too exciting in the way of unique beers at the bar local and well known Wye Valley ales such as HPA and Butty Bach.. The beers tasted well kept.. This was more than could be said for the mens toilet.. quite odourous and in the urinals were scattered quite a few coins and a couple of nails?? I didn't ask.. but I suppose that would be more secure than a plastic charity tub on the bar. We have ticked this one off for this month a pleasant half hour well except for...

Lovely pub in a prominent position at the top of the hill on Wye Street. Surprisingly small inside, so definitely worth booking if you’re planning to eat. Booked a table for eight people on a Saturday evening and we all loved the food and friendly service. Most people had fish as this is their specialty, although I had gammon. Portion sizes are very generous but also great quality; I doubt if many could manage a starter, main and dessert. The small area out front is a sun trap and very popular with the locals and passers by. Managed to get a seat there for drinks on another occasion, enjoying the views and evening sunshine. This pub, and the Hope & Anchor, are standout pubs in the area. This place wins on food but the other wins if you want to be riverside. Nevertheless both great.

We spent the weekend in Ross and walked from the caravan park up through the town to look for somewhere to eat. On reaching the top of town we noticed this little pub with tables outside. No problem accommodating us with our dog. It was getting quite busy even at early lunchtime but we found a nice table tucked at the back of the restaurant area. Plenty of choice for veggies and pescatarians like us. My son and I both had the double decker sandwiches with chips and they were enormous!! Very tasty too! Hubby had the Florentine fish cakes on noodles which he said was different but very nice indeed. Friendly welcome. Will definitely return when back in Ross on Wye.

Food to die for. If you are exceptionally brave, and accompanied, I can heartily recommend the fish platter sharer. I have what my wife describes as a "robust" appetite, and this guy beat us -Not once, but TWICE (we're not too proud to ask for doggy bags if overfaced-we continued our lunch later and STILL could not QUITE finish. Beer selection that I saw was very good, and the pint I had, I thoroughly enjoyed. Great, friendly staff and a pleasant outdoor seating area to watch the world go by.
