Edit: visited here again on 9/11/2024.

BBQ burger and pint of Leffe for 'Managers Special' price of £8.93 - Bargain!

Pub was also very busy, which seriously begs the question as to why Wetherspoons are trying to dispose of this pub. An utterly ridiculous decision. It is equally as busy as other Wetherspoons I've visited on a Saturday, in the same time period.

Have been here before for a beer, but did not review on previous visit.

A large two story branch on the northern side of the town centre. A more modern branch inside and out than The Savoy.

The pub was quite busy when I visited, and had to find a table in the upstairs area.

Music is played in the evening, which is a rarity in Wetherspoons.

In addition to The Savoy, another branch that does the good value 'Top Plates, Low Rates' deals on selected items.

On this visit I opted for The All Day Brunch and a pint of Titanic Chocolate and Vanilla Stout - one of the March Wetherspoons Festival Beers.

As with Savoy, a decent range was available.

The total cost of food and beer was a very reasonable £6.44.

Food was well presented and cooked, no complaints with the beer.

I really cannot fathom why this branch is being closed, it was fairly busy on my visit and Swindon Town centre is fairly large. It is also more convenient for the train station.

Although I do like visiting Spoons branches, I do find their closure policy utterly bizarre in many cases. What still isn't grasped, although the pub is not as busy as they would like, it is likely still one of the busiest pubs in town.

Hopefully sense will prevail and this branch will he saved...

Went in there today and was second customer, Barman at the bar was in conversation with bar staff and ignored me, then looked at me as if ready to serve me then went off to talk to another member of staff in the Kitchen, whats that all about. Finally he addressed me and I ordered my breakfast, which was delivered within a couple of minutes. However as with all Wetherspoons pubs it was cold as usual. Asked for it to be reheated in microwave and was done immediately, however I burnt my mouth and got no apology for it being cold in the first place.Wont visit here again. How difficult is it to cook the meal in the first place? Also why put cold food on a hot plate? I mean its not rocket science is it? The table behind me who came in 5 minutes after us were unaware of what had happened to us had the exact same issue and sent their breakfast back to the kitchen. Nearly every Spoons I visit is the same, cold breakfasts, on warm plates, sticky tables, only ever cleared and seldom wiped down after previous customers. Butter that is liquid as they leave it in the open in the kitchen then put it on a hot plate to melt. On one occasion, I opened a sachet and the entire contents of oil went all over my shirt. NEVER EVER AGAIN. I do not recommend these places for breakfast or in fact any meal. Shame really as would be really good value if they got it right in the first place.I am sure Mr Martin (CEO) would not accept this, would be nice if he sent in some secret shoppers to confirm...

My visit to the Sir Daniel Arms was a rocky experience with a low start however our waitress managed to pull it together for middle and end resulting in a 3 star award.

As all good bars and pubs must, the establishment had a not only wide selection of beverages but also an affordable range with the cheapest pint only setting you back £1.79. In spite of the pub being at roughly ¾ capacity, our food was still served astoundingly fast in under 6 minutes with fantastic portion sizes

However, there were clear and inignorable issues on my visit too. Upon entering the pub we were greeted by no one and we’re left standing in the lobby feeling lost, after a few minutes a patron of the establishment informed us that we seat ourselves. This is very much a problem for new comers and something more experienced customers will undoubtedly not notice. The spice scale also confuses me thoroughly as the pepperoni pizza was quoted as 2 ‘flames’ where as the hot wings were 3 ‘flames’, the hot wings them proceeded to be incredibly spicy which I was not expecting from something only 50% more spicy than pepperoni pizza.

In conclusion, I think that this pub was lovely in many areas and that where it truly shines is as a staple for regulars that serves quick meals and cheap beer. So for all of you looking for a workhorse of a pub, I would say this...

You can get in and get out anytime, that's good enough for me. Let me start by appreciating the flies inside, they are everywhere, in your drinks in yo mama pants under the coach, everywhere. The bodyguards are OK, they often need a reality check, like bruh this ain't James Bond movie, don't need to stare me dead in the eyes, feels like I'm talking to Ronnie the pickering most of the time, chill out guys, breathe, nobody is out there to get you, everyone is too busy having a good time, including the flies too! The staff is hmm, the staff is there looking at me like I'm Captain Jack Sparrow, while I appreciate the love I really don't need it. Although if you can ignore James Bond you can have a really good night with dysfunctional people so cheers to that!

Despite not being a fan of Wetherspoons, I decided to visit this one for a meal and a drink. When I purchased a bottled beer with a glass, the glass looked so mucky (as shown on photo). I took the glass back to the bar staff, and was told that the glass was "clean" and I'm being fussy. That was rude and unprofessional. The food? Pretty good. Can't complain. A burger with extra couple of patties, plus an alcoholic drink for under £11. Can't go wrong with that, even if the food was microwaved. Overall, not the best of places, but if there was an improvement of customer service and serving drinks with clean glasses, it would've been a great establishment to enjoy food and drink on a budget.
