Pretty grim Pub, surprised at some of the 5 Star reviews on here (are these people actually reviewing the same Pub?? 🤔). Called in here for a quick drink on Friday afternoon. The inside is spacious, but has a grubby feeling about it. Drinks are average and not a great selection on Tap. I ordered a Hendricks Gin, granted expecting Cucumber in it was aiming high, but I didn't even get Ice, just a dirty Glass 👎 The Pub just has a 'grim' vibe about it, it seems to host all the local Drunks who either stand at the Bar getting smashed, or stand outside by the Fire escape smoking (jamming the door open so the Bar stinks of Cigarettes 🤢). The local Punters are also a bit creepy, my wife pointed out a few of them stood at the Bar just kept staring at her 🤣 The only positive thing I found about the place is it had a great selection of music playing 👍 Given it's central location, it's a real shame it is so poor, especially given how many other great Pubs there are...
Read moreWent here with the impression it had a pool table, as it advertises it on their website, walked in and no pool table to be found. We stayed and had a drink as me and my family are on our holidays but i wish we hadnt of bothered! The bar staff are rude and there is no atmosphere. My boyfriend asked for a whiskey and coke, the younger barmaid put the whiskey in the glass but forgot the coke and when he asked ‘can i have it with coke please’ she sighed and rolled her eyes!! After that we were made to feel unwelcome and out of place, with the barmaids throwing rude looks at us, and locals occasionally turning round to stare so they were obviously talking about us. Another man sat on the table next to us and had a pint of inches, we seen him at the ambleside inn 5/10 minutes after we left and he agreed the bar staff were rude and the pub just has no atmosphere. Avoid if you want to have a nice chill drink because the staff are awful and the pubs...
Read moreBit of a peculiar set-up here. Went in and ordered a couple of pints. I asked the lady (short, black hair in a bob) if they accepted CAMRA cards. She said they did. I showed her my membership card and she gave me the relevant discount which meant my round came to £6.60.
On the strength of this, we decided to have another couple of pints rather than move on. My husband went to the bar, showed a different member of staff (skinny young kid wearing a waistcoat) his CAMRA card only to be told "we don't accept CAMRA - 100%" When he said the previous barmaid had given us a discount, he just wasn't interested and charged us the full £7.50.
It was only our second pint of the night, and we had a long drive home the following day, so we had no intention of getting inebriated.
Make your mind up. Either you do give CAMRA discount, or you don't.
We won't be back because of the attitude of...
