TOPO — Restaurant in England

Five of us visited just before Christmas, we placed our orders, 4 small plates between 5 of us as starters, plus 2 of us ordered 3 small plates as mains with fries. We waited almost 2 hours for the starters to arrive, after asking where the food was, at which point the small plates, specifically ordered as mains, also arrived. We pointed this out and they just said "shall we take them away then?" we said not to as we didn't know when we'd get them back! We were given a free round of drinks for the wait, which was good, but had comments from the waitress about them all being different! The mains arrived much later along with our fries which we should have had with the small plates ordered as mains. We didn't actually want them by this time! The vegan burger was cold and the others were very average. To top it off there was a DJ on playing music so loud that we couldn't even have a conversation. We asked if it could be turned down a bit, which he did but only for 10 minutes, after which it was blasting out again, appropriate for a club maybe but not a restaurant where people want to chat. It's a shame because we'd heard good reviews, but we won't be returning...

This was my third visit to Topo, the first time we went the food was absolutely out of this world. Burgers were great and the salt and pepper fries were the best I'd ever had. Second time was disastrous. The service was good but the food was a complete let down, the burgers just tasted burnt and the salt and pepper fries were that salty that they really just weren't edible. Because of how good the food was the first time I went, I thought I'd give it the best two out of three tonight. The food tonight was all fine, it wasn't anything special but it was all nice enough. Unfortunately the service tonight was a real let down. We waited over an hour for our mains to come. The restaurant was pretty dead when we arrived, just before 6.30pm. It did start to fill up quite quickly though and three of the tables that arrived and ordered after us all got their food before us, including people that ordered the same mains. There wasn't a single apology for the wait, no check back was done to see if everything was alright with the food. We arrived to find our table not ready but got told to sit at it anyway. we ordered food of which the starters took over 2 hours to arrive. when we asked how long it would be we just got told " you ordered off the small plates as did every else so it takes longer" some mains came out with the starters and we were told we ordered it that way. Staff were rude when we asked them anything then decided to ignore us for the rest of the night. got offered a free drink each due to the long wait for the starters then got moaned at for ordering different things.
