If I could give less than 1 star I would!!
This Restaurant, and the Staff spoiled what was supposed to have been a memorable weekend with Friends.
A Friend and I had made two separate bookings to dine at Victoria on Saturday 17th July (booked were made on 8th July) through the Restaurants website. We both had received confirmation emails of our bookings and were happy that we had managed to get somewhere sorted for a nice dinner for our group.
A few hours before we were supposed to have arrived at the Restaurant, we realised that we may be running slightly late so as a courtesy we decided to call the restaurant to notify them. What happened next shocked us, and left us totally stranded and out of options on a busy Saturday Night in Newquay.
After calling several times, we finally got through but were surprised to hear that the Restaurant didn't have any information about our booking.
We explained that we had both booked online, and that we had both received booking confirmations to which the lady on the phone nonchalantly replied "oh, online bookings are not being accepted at the moment". We were stunned... We calmly explained that this was unacceptable and that there were 20 people who were expecting to have a nice dinner that evening, what did they expect us to do? Newquay is so busy and most venues are always bookings only, so we had literally zero chance of getting tables at any other restaurant with such short notice. The lady at Victoria however was very unsympathetic and really didn't care that she had put us in such a terrible situation.
We asked why the online booking service was still an option on their website, to which she had no reply.
We asked why, if they knew they were not accepting online bookings, didn't they just contact us when we booked to let us know. Again, no answer and no help.
So ye, if you are planning on eating at this place. Make sure you DO NOT book online. Unfortunately I cannot rate the food, but from my experience with the staff...I would not recommend it.
I really hope this review helps others, because there's nothing worse than being stranded in Newquay with a large group and not being able to get a nice sit down meal that you were expecting.
Shout out to the Towan, which was the only place we could finally get into. Safe to say they made a handsome taking from us...
Read moreArrived fairly late but they assured us the kitchen was still open. We had to pay upfront before the food arrived & the bill was rather expensive for what was ordered. When the food came my pasta dish was completely tasteless & it was luke warm at best. I asked to return the dish for a refund as the other items ordered weren’t that great either. The waiter took my food back but then never returned. Eventually I asked the tall waiter with brown hair in a ponytail if I could have the refund, he replied shrugging his shoulders & smirking at me, saying they don’t refund just because a customer doesn’t like the taste of their food! I asked to speak to the manager but he again shrugged his shoulders & said he’s busy & didn't know where he was! Clearly avoiding going to get him! So I sat & waited inside (even if it was just to tell him about my experience!) the waiter spent most of his time texting on his phone by the till. Whilst I was waiting, the lady who worked behind the bar said something to the guy with the ponytail, as she too could tell he was being pathetic! She then went to find the manager & came back to confirm that he would be coming out. When the manager did finally appear 35 mins later, he walked up to me, eyeing me up & down, looking rather menaced! I explained that my dish was not edible! And that my food was taken away without being told that I wouldn’t be getting a refund? He told me that I pushing my luck ordering food this late!! He did eventually & reluctantly give me my £15 back (to note, I only ever asked for a refund on my dish, not the entire bill!) the whole experience was just shocking! I’d like to add that the young lad, the other waiter with short brown hair was alot nicer & could certainly teach the older guy with the ponytail a thing or 2 about customer service! As for the manager, his attitude & response says it all! Avoid...
Read moreI was verbally abused by the manager!! I ended up here after struggling to find somewhere to eat. Arrived alone and ordered a drink. I said thanks when it arrived. 20 mins later, my friends had messaged their orders through, so when I eventually saw the waiter (I believe he's also the manager) serving the table next to me I turned and raised my hand (in silence). He said "I can only do one thing at a time". I replied, "sure, no problem". He walked away and I waited 15mins more. In which time he went to the tables around me to ask if customers were OK (even a table who had already paid the bill). My friends turned up and I had to tell them I wasn't able to order. He eventually came back and greeted my friends. Then he said to them, referring to me, "your friend has something wrong in the head"!!! I was completely shocked and told him I was confused as to why he'd say this. Anything I said was met with aggression, and his temper rose. My friend asked if we should leave. The problem was, we had tried 5 other places and this was a last chance to eat. We stayed, and I tried to say as little as possible to the man serving us. The atmosphere was horrible, as I knew I couldn't say a word or he would erupt immediately! When the bill came I said nothing and let my friend deal with it. The manager decided to say "don't be unhappy about earlier. Life is too short". All I could say was, "I was fine earlier". A very strange, uncomfortable and disconcerting experience. I know it's a difficult time, and the place was very busy, but for him to spring into attack mode when I had waited and been polite, was completely unacceptable. It was embarrassing because other customers started looking over and the atmosphere was really tense. I hope no one else has...
