The spaghetti bolognese here was the worst I can remember having in a restaurant. I could tell just from looking that it wasn’t good. A large bowl of pasta in sauce, the taste did not confound my expectations. The pasta was overcooked. The sauce was probably a lot more tomato than meat. The onion tasted undercooked. It tasted like a supermarket ready meal - or was it like something out of a jar? It was edible but I really do expect better from this kind of meal in an “Italian” restaurant.
Speaking of which, a lot of the menu doesn’t sound very authentically Italian, which raised alarm bells with me (using cheddar and Red Leicester in dishes for example). A few typos and spelling mistakes too. The menu overall seems to do several types of cuisine, and has far too much choice. I wouldn’t expect a lot of this food in an Italian restaurant.
I was also surprised that I was charged (£1) for Parmesan with my meal. That’s the first time I recall that happening. The garlic bread we shared was okay - not terrible, but was it much better than what I could have at home?
The service for the food was speedy (maybe a little too fast for a meal like that?). The waitress serving us was okay, although perhaps lacking in enthusiasm and friendliness (not much information was given about the desserts I asked about). We decided to try the chocolate pizza, so had the one with Snickers. It’s basically chocolate sauce/spread (Nutella?) with slices of a chocolate bar on it (not convinced it was Snickers). It tasted okay.
The standard overall seemed quite mediocre, but the main course falls far short of what I expect in a restaurant. If you want pasta, I suggest you avoid this place. In fact, avoid it unless you have no other choice (and in Minehead on a Sunday night, there isn’t...
Read moreVladi's Pizzeria, I was Vlad the Impaler’s carpenter, and he used to make a mean pizza too!
After I recovered from my meal at Wetherspoons and my hangover had subsided sufficiently, I decided it was time for me to have my dinner! And I ask you, is there any meal more fulfilling than a delicious pizza?
(The answer is "No")
I walked into the restaurant, which was empty, and asked the young waitress for a table. She sat me down at a small two-seater table with a lovely view through the glazed doors of Minehead's main street.
I ordered a meat feast calzone and a pint of Strongbow, then waited for my meal to arrive. The prices were not too expensive, and I was pleasantly surprised. I had a text from law enforcement: Nigel had crossed Vietnam, Thailand, and Myanmar, and he and his unwilling passenger were crossing the Bay of Bengal, due to make landfall in India within the next few hours.
My calzone arrived, and it was stunning. Absolutely delicious. Packed with meat and wonderfully stringy mozzarella. Excellent cheese pull of over 1 foot.
It was then that a group of jockeys and a man dressed like a horse walked in and ordered a large pizza and drinks between the lot of them. As I swallowed down my last bite of the calzone and paid my bill, I started to chat with the young lads.
They said to me, "Hey Harry Potter, do a spell for us!"
Now, I am not easily offended, but accusing me of being Harry Potter, that FRAUD of a wizard, I could not stand the humiliation. I pulled out my LeCox (my magic wand) and cast a spell of "Floppilius Diccalius" on the jockeys and turned the man dressed like a horse into a Tesco's home brand lasagna. That will teach them.
Vladi's Pizzeria 5/5 (absolutely...
Read moreWe ate here yesterday and I was amazed at how expensive it was and horrified to see a cost of £1.50 each added for a tiny pot of sauce that no other restaurant has ever charged for before. My 3 grandchildren had tomato sauce each and my daughter had garlic mayo but said it didn't taste nice so requested some mayo. This cost extra £7.50 of which we were not made aware of before ordering. Daylight robbery. Also be aware they charge a 10% surcharge so makes a very expensive evening. My 5 year old has a milk intolerance and my daughter asked if his meal would have milk in which she was told it didn't but shortly after eating his face was very sore and itchy so obviously some cross contamination somewhere in the kitchen. I thought it was mandatory for allergens to be available to read, ie Natashas Law! The pizzas cost my daughter and I an extra £10 each for next size up and stuffed crust! Mine was quite nice but my daughter said hers tasted odd. Have had better from takeaway places. Will not visit again or recommend. On a positive note the young lady serving us was...
