Went to York for the day on a coach trip and wanted some lunch , the Windmill looked a nice place so decided to give it a try. Four of us ordered our food returned to the table with our drinks from the bar and the food followed quite quickly. We all remarked the plates were cold but as it was busy didn't want to make a fuss. One had chicken tikka masala which was luke warm , one hunters chicken which was luke warm and two steaks. Both of the steaks ordered were supposed to be medium , this was not the case one was quite rare not very warm and tough!! The waiter came and asked if everything was ok and we explained it was very tough and cold so he told us he would have a word with the chef!!! He never came back with any explanation and avoided us completely. As the steak was so cold and tough it could not be eaten and ruined the meal .... it just was not edible. Other meals were about finished but not that enjoyable. Total waste of money and lack of customer service from the staff with no apology or explanation regarding the steak quite annoyed and disappointed we just left. Would not return or recommend you eat here... we did observe nobody else was eating... should have perhaps realised that was not a good sign!!!!! Lots of places to eat in York so do not bother with...
Read moreENSURE YOU BUY RIGHT I decided having a go at at Windmill for the first time and the Hunters Chicken and when I saw it, was very disappointed. The cheese was absolutely awful looking, it was something you'd have in microwave burger for a £1. The tastes of the chicken was good but it was dry, and the single bacon wasn't impressive with the fat hanging out. When I went to complain, they said it could be exchanged for a same price meal like a fish and chips, however, it had to be paid for. Not joking, had to PAY for something that was bad! What the hell!? The only good thing was the fish and chips were nice so were the staff except for the one who said the complaint has to be PAID for! Was asked 3 times if I was okay but the guy on the 3rd agreed the cheese shouldn't be like that! Not should the chicken be dry! Never ever coming back to this greedy pub with little care. And it was my first time visiting, the pub looks lovely. Just be warned, if you ever go, pick something you know they can't screw up otherwise they'll ask you to repay if you arent satisfied. Go to the Punchbowl, they listen to their customers and...
Read morePopped in with my kids as the Wetherspoons over the road was packed. We just wanted to have a drink and play some boardgames while we waited for our train.
We entered via the doors towards the corner of the building and sat at an empty table nearby. Waited at the bar for a short while but no-one was there so just went back to the table and ordered drinks from the app (which didn't seem to include the full range of ales). The kids each wanted a Coke. Drinks arrived a while later (I had to check the app that my order went through as we were waiting a while for five drinks). Kids were a bit disappointed at the size of their 'standard coke zero' (£3.60) and the glasses weren't even filled.
Later, after playing some games, I went to the toilet, and only then realised there was A LOT more seating and an area with comfy seats and larger tables at the other side of the bar. There's a second entrance which brings you straight in to that part of the pub too.
Seemed pretty nice inside, just would have expected an actual pint of Coke for that price. Spent just under £20 on a pint of ale and four (small, listed as...
