I sit here regular as I have done for years. I have never seen a rat, as others have reported, but so what if there is. It's a garden beside the river. Read moreCame upon this peaceful garden close to the usual drop-off point for our coach. It lies between the railway station and the busy Lendal Bridge that leads into the centre of York. The simple war memorial, surrounded by poppy wreaths when I visited, commemorates the York citizens who lost their lives in the two world wars. The garden is only small, predominantly grass with some fine mature trees, well-kept paths, and plenty of seating. It's a nice quiet spot to sit and relax, and maybe eat a packed lunch, before heading into the city centre.
