If I have reviewed the Exeter branch last week (Sept 3, 2023) I would have given them a 3 star as meal presentation was pretty basic like you were eating at home. No sauce served for my simply salmon and the fish skin was served on top. The sweet potato fries were very soggy it looks like a cheap fries. I said I will give another try as Harvester has been one of my favourite restaurant in Bristol. So came back again to Harvester Exeter today (09/09/2023) and the quality of food was great- it was presented like the one I get from Bristol branch. Sweet potato fries was crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. My favourite was Simply salmon served with hollandaise sauce The rack of ribs was excellent! Really delicious and we enjoyed it - meat comes off so easily from the bone. The salad bar (2nd time now) - nobody seems to be cleaning and tidying up, and not refilled too. I had plenty but husband didn’t get what he wanted as containers were empty or nearly empty. The service received from Isobel was great today. Very nice, attentive and good in everything she does. She’s very active and hardworking lady. I heard her saying to the person next to our table when they commented how busy she was, she said she doesn’t need to go to the gym. Today I was not disappointed. Location was great next to the Exe.

Sunday afternoon astound 4pm, restaurant was not at all busy. There were no ales on draught and only 2 bottled ones available. I ordered a sirloin and was told the only available steaks were rump or fillet, so I settled for rump. I also ordered whiskey and mushroom sauce, only to be told a few minutes later, the only sauces available were peppercorn or beef dripping and thyme, neither of which I wanted, so we were refunded for the sauce. The salad bar was ok but needed replenishing. My partner had the butternut squash, spinach and emmental roulade, which she said was nice, but the jacket potato with it was burnt, the portion of vegetables was miniscule and she had to ask for the gravy, which, when it arrived, was extremely lumpy. My steak was cooked nicely, but the fries and onion rings had been reheated and were luke warm and rubbery. The staff disappeared once we had been served our food, so there was no opportunity to complain. £25 for 2 very mediocre meals, very disappointed.

We ordered three steaks and a chilli. The steaks were inedible and so dry. We asked them to be medium but received black leather like lumps. We started to count how many times we had to chew the steaks before we could swallow. 55 chews was the lowest. I may as well have stayed home and barbequed by own shoes. You'll struggle to find kitchen staff who care less about their job. The salad bar was mostly empty and our waitress had to microwave our desserts to ensure they arrived in an edible state. This all occurred over 2.5 hours as nearly all the kitchen equipment had broken and most things on the menu weren't available to order!!!!!! This place shouldn't have been open for business. Absolutely horrific experience.
