The Stand Off — Restaurant in Exeter

Was here for birthday celebrations last week. Great pub with great live music and decently priced drinks! Bar staff who were also attentive and got ordered to us very quickly considering how busy the place was. However, unfortunately the security team need to be re-educated on how to do their job correctly. A friend of mine was wrongly kicked out due to “suspicion of drugs” (she wasn’t). No tests were conducted to prove this theory correct(basically they had no evidence at all) and she was therefore told that she was barred and had to move away from the outside of the building. The bouncer then refused to let her back in to retrieve her phone but then also couldn’t inform us of what had happened! So a young woman was left on her own outside with no phone and no way of contacting her friends in the early hours of the morning. Basically what I’m saying is this guys inability to do his job correctly could’ve caused something awful to happen to my friend. But when confronted about his decision, he had nothing to say. Clueless unqualified moron. I think it important for those who go to this place to be aware of this. The security team are hired by a separate company, so hopefully they won’t be working there again in future.

Tried to book a table online, got an email back saying: Thank you for your enquiry, we will be in touch shortly. Please note this booking is not yet confirmed. A week later I called them only to find out that they hadn’t bothered to do anything with my booking request. At first they said they had some tables on stand by, then said they were fully booked for weeks, then tried to tell me I would have had an email saying I couldn’t book (I never got such email) & I have a reference booking number in my email, then said their system wasn’t working properly (that’s obvious) but apparently I could come in anyway to eat but couldn’t have a table. We were coming from out of area, visiting someone in Exeter, very disappointed with the way they handled our booking and has left it late in the day to be able to secure a table somewhere else! What a breath of fresh air this place is. A city pub with great drinks great food free games and incredibly nice staff. The pub itself is clean and very well presented, it has a great atmosphere and the staff are second to none. I came in here with my wife, my daughter and friends expecting to have a quick drink before finding a restaurant for lunch, but after five minutes and a glance at the menu we realised that we didn't need to go anywhere. The young lady behind the bar (I think her name was Jazz, sorry if I got that wrong) was incredibly friendly, chatty, helpful and is a massive asset to the pub.
