I'm sorry to say this was probably the worst meal iv ever had . I ordered the satay soup which was basically a huge bowl of unimaginably hot water, I kept trying for a sip every few minutes and scolded myself several times. About 15 minutes after it arrived and by which time my partner had finished his meal, I was just about able to tolerate the heat of a dodgy 'fish cake' or two. This however was the least disappointing part really, the soup was described as satay with beansprouts shitake mushrooms etc etc there was half of one mushroom and almost no sprouts in my dish, however there was about half a heads worth of boiled cabbage floating about in there. There was absolutely no trace of satay on the palette, I emptied half the contents of the soy sauce bottle on the table into the dish hoping to achieve some meagre level of palatability but even this was lost in the mass of the steaming hot pool. my boyfriend had the satay stir fry which was better but only by comparison and infact was also terrible, again no satay, super oily and just a bit rancid...
Read moreSuch a lovely place to eat. I've been going here for must be about a decade since an old friend introduced me to it. The food is always amazing, very fresh and incredibly well cooked. The service is great, friendly, polite and prompt. The space is compact with long benches along tables which are shared by diners but I really like the atmosphere that that more social seating gives. Staff wise I have seen them deal with all sorts over the years, from the occasionally difficult customer or once a strange couple with a load of kids who were having some kind of serious familial meltdown in public. The staff always deal amazingly with anything like that, politely and calmly. Can't fault them. A truly great and established location on the Exeter food map. Whole...
Read moreNice space, good service, ok food, but too much sauce and too bland for my tastes. People tend to think it's authentic but I'm very dubious about any restaurant that peddles "oriental food" as a catch all - do you know how difficult it is to master so many styles of cooking from so many different countries?! Ludicrous. Nevertheless, this is a small city so I'm sure they do what they can whilst also making sure to keep it pretty safe and cater to less adventurous palates. I do like their noodle soups the best (generous portion of veg and noodles) albeit probably with too much soy sauce and chilli oil added on. Not the most exciting but it's a decent standby and a good option for a more casual but still...
