If you want internet or food, skip it.
They do not have hot food, only snacks and drinks. You can bring in real food but they request you buy snacks and drinks from them.
The staff were friendly and helpful.
We picked this place as it looked cozy and we needed somewhere to get internet. It is a little bit hidden as you go down an alley, around a corner, through a hallway and down some stairs. There are signs indicating this so you shouldn't have any problems. If you are coming here after dark, pull out your phone and turn on the flashlight as the alley is not well lit.
We purchased some drinks and found a place to setup our laptops. The wifi requires a code, which you get at the counter from an employee, and is good for 1 hour for 1 device. We each have a phone and a laptop, so we need 4 codes and having to punch in 12 unique digits into 4 devices every hour, is not fun. You need to put a timer on as they internet will just stop working suddenly when the hour is up.
From our understanding there have been people hanging out, using their facilities but not supporting the place so they are trying to curb this behavior. However, having to get little pieces of paper every hour or so is a pain point for customers who do support them. It looks like they also blocked the outlets from use as well to curb use of their place.
There just has to be a better way. Possibly a £3/hour/person charge to use their place which is also credit for their food? Or limit the internet to 3 hours without requiring a code. Then after the 3 hours, you need to request a code? There seems like so many other options available to reduce friction and encourage patronage.
I really wanted to love this place but in the end it was more hassle then...

Wow how on earth have we not come accross this before, looking for somewhere to eat on a busy Saturday with pride, rugby and the your of Britain in the city we walked a little further the normal to find somewhere to eat with space amd here we found the Cavern working with adults with varying different abilities and difficulties I was excited to findout what the Cavern was all about.
It's more then just a cafe/ restaurant it's a safe place to relax , a venue of many talents and really has it all.
The menu was brilliant has lots and lots of choice and even a specials board too where we chose the mac and cheese with garlic bread at just £5.
The food was absolutely amazing, came quick and hot and most definitely a service with a smile. It's worth mentioning the coffee too this was some of the best coffee I've had in Gloucester! Was there anything to pick out that could be better at such a great venue well maybe there where a few areas that could do with a good clean but it's moat certainly wasn't anything to take away form this epic venue and the worm they do. This is now my favourite go to spot for food and a drink.
Thanks the Cavern and please pass on all my thanks to the team on Saturday 9th

Read moreOverall an odd cafe. It is targeted towards a very niche crowd so we felt a bit out of place being in there.
I did really like the concept of the cafe, so plus points for that. It is targeted to vulnerable youths and they also offer volunteer employment opportunities to anyone to help people get work experience - love it!
However it's definitely not your regular cafe. There are hot drinks and a small selection of cake and biscuits, but that's it. All the food is sweet and there is no hot food available, though they do allow outside food brought in.
We went here as we were looking for a cosy cafe to sit for a few hours and use wifi, and order some food and drinks during that time. However there was no food to order and the wifi is only available by punching in a different access code every hour. I found this odd and it made us feel like we were only welcome to stay for 1 hour. And then as we didn't want to be eating sweet food the whole time, we found it difficult to spend money here to feel like we were adequately giving back to the cafe enough for use of their internet.
We did receive decent service and the drinks were ordered were delicious. I also liked the Christmas specials drink options like caramel gingerbread...
