AFTERNOON TEA review. Firstly, this is a review on the AT. I have given it 4 stars, so it does not reflect badly on the restaurant. For me afternoon tea is a treat, I expect to go wow, or at least say that looks good when the stand comes out. However, bland and disappointing is how I describe the stand. Plenty of sandwiches, same bread used for all which is fine but maybe not when the 3 fillings all look the same colour, which hardly differentiated from the bread. The cake offering was disappointing to look at, 2 cakes of the same style but one plain and one chocolate. 2 scones each, jam was not jam but a berry mix in a runny juice. Taste- sandwiches were ok, fillings didn't look different and they had been mixed with mayo or something similar so no huge difference in the taste. Bread was soft. Cakes were not for me, didn't taste nice. Scones were ok, shop bought which is fine. Personally I don't like my scone heated, as these were (find they go hard when you get round to eating them). Cream was lovely, not enough for four scones though. Service was good. Daughter didn't want tea or coffee, was offered hot chocolate, which is a huge positive as other places rarely do this. Decor in the place is beautiful, it had a nice atmosphere. Would definitely go and try the food. Plenty of outdoor seating. Even though I bought the Afternoon Tea from Itison, I still felt it was too expensive for what we got. Overall a...
Read moreFirst of all i dont like writing slating posts unless i feel really strongly.......So disappointed. I asked what the soup was and was advised it was mushroom. So I thought I'd order soup followed by pasta. Came to order to be told that its spinach not mushroom that she must have told me the permanent soup on the board that cant be removed. So I ordered pate. I couldn't believe when it came with supermarket sliced white bread that was scorched on one side and completely untoasted on the other so basically bare bread. No butter, 2 round pieces of pate that didn't particularly taste of anything a metal small dish with some relish in it and boring salad with a drizzle of something on. I ordered pasta for main with a side of cheesy garlic bread. The pasta was 'ok' but the garlic bread had had a slice of processed cheese singles toasted on top of 'garlic bread' Went to pay for the bill and thought it was expensive but paid it and walked away to leave. I double checked the bill and realised instead of charging for 3 glasses of wine they'd charged the 3rd one as a bottle nit a glass. I returned to the till to make them aware. No apology, took 3 people to arrange a refund , to the penny after we'd bought 3 glasses. 2nd time I've been, first time wasn't the best so gave it another opportunity this time worse. Won't be back. I think unless you order lobster and crab thats...
Read moreStarted ok although the place was virtually empty. Once we got menus, the waiter (who was not friendly) took a long time to take our order. We ordered soup of the day (leek and potato), special prawn main, fisherman's basket starter, and special salmon main. Soup was very watery! Fisherman's basket was ok, breading was tasty but half of the fish were sardines (I think), and dip was just mayonnaise. Special prawn dish was not very nice (had the same watery mayonnaise as the salmon plus some mystery sauce with no taste) and was missing the chips. When we mentioned this the waiter said he didn't think they came with chips despite this being clearly written on the board. The salmon was inedible and had to be sent back, which I hate doing. The sauce was disgusting (sort of watered down sour mayonnaise), so I scraped it off thinking maybe I could eat the rest, but it revealed salmon that tasted off. After sending it back the waiter came back to tell me I was wrong - it must be the capers - definitely not as I like capers. Also he told me they were confused because quite a lot had been eaten - I had one bite and my partner had a bite to check if I was not imagining the awful taste - should we have spat it back out on to the plate? We decided to leave at that point. Waste of money. Do...
