We visited Indiya Restaurant in Bedford for dinner and were disappointed with our experience. We read the reviews about the place and were excited to try out the Indian vegetarian food they had to offer. However, when our order arrived, we were disappointed with the quality and quantity of the food. The flavours were not as rich and authentic as we had hoped, and the portions were quite small for the price.
The service at the restaurant was also lacking. Our server seemed disinterested in our dining experience and was slow to refill our drinks or check on us. It took a long time for our food to arrive, and when it did, it was lukewarm at best. The dishes lacked flavour and were quite bland. The portion sizes were also small for the price we paid. The restaurant was also quite noisy, which made it difficult to have a conversation. It felt cramped and stuffy and did not have the ambiance that we would expect from a good restaurant.
The overall experience was not worth the cost. We would not recommend this Restaurant to others, and we do not plan on returning. There are plenty of other options in Bedford that offer better-quality Indian vegetarian food at a similar or lower price.
Additionally, the behaviour of one of the Bangladeshi waiters was particularly rude and unprofessional. He seemed annoyed when we asked for recommendations and rolled his eyes when we requested additional napkins. He was dismissive and impatient when we asked for the check, making us feel unwelcome in the restaurant. His attitude towards us as customers was unacceptable and made for a very unpleasant dining experience. It's unfortunate that such behaviour from one individual can tarnish the entire...
Read moreThis restaurant has a beautiful ambience and customer service but the food in my experience was not well seasoned and lacked flavour. I did comment to the staff at the end of the meal, hoping that the feedback would help them improve.
The curries seemed to have a similar base, and we were disappointed with the dining experience. The food is not authentic in its flavour and nowhere close to what the actual dishes should taste like...It is catered to the British public. Being an Indian, I didn't pick chicken tikka or jalfrezi or balti so cannot comment on those but went for :
Salmon fishcakes with mango salsa - fish cakes were okay but salsa turned out to be a mango chutney. Tequila and lime prawns - tasty but overdone. Sizzling duck - under seasoned and did not reflect the flavours mentioned. Shahjahani murgh with eggs - did not taste rich like a special nawabi dish would.
We went to the restaurant because they have such a great menu and we thought that we would have a variety of well prepared food, but unfortunately this was not the case and it has not got the attention of an Indian foodie who has an excellent palate and therefore a food critic.
I may visit them again just to sample some other dishes hoping for an improvement but until that happens I won't be able to...
Read moreContemporary mixed with authenticity equals - Indiya! Wonderful settings, excellent cuisine, impeccable table service, reasonably priced & an exciting ambience that touches all the senses as only India can. The menu is clear, has some new dishes listed that no other Indian restaurant I've been to has & all is very reasonably priced. Alcohol is available as is tea, coffee etc. The details here are beautiful in the decor, soft music & gorgeous trinkets in the ladies restroom which is also luxuriously decorated. Each time I go here with my brother (it's become our place when he's visiting) it still feels fresh & wondrous as the last time. We keep going back. My brother is from London & a real 'foodie' & says he has yet to find such an authentic & wonderful place such as Indiya. I think just that is a great endorsement. I can't recommend Indiya highly enough & recommend it for a relaxed, perfectly catered for & absolutely delicious...
