We’ve now dined at the Chaat Haus numerous times over the past year and have found the food consistently amazing, every time.
The rich flavours in all the dishes we’ve tried so far have most definitely left a mark because all and any of the dishes we’ve had so far have been absolutely delicious.
Coupled with the brilliant customer service we’ve received from all the staff, but especially from Shuma, Zak and Akbar, it’s made our date night Saturday nights a really pleasurable and positive experience to look forward to.
It would appear that Shuma, Zak and Akbar simply can’t do enough to do all they can to make your visit to the Chaat Haus a great experience. We’ve certainly enjoyed the impromptu discussions we’ve had with all the staff and that too adds to the positive experience.
On our last visit a couple of weeks ago, my wife happened to ask Shuma about one of their starters as we just can’t stop having a full plate to ourselves (I certainly won’t share my crispy Kale and Spinach starter!). Shuma went on to describe how it’s made. She was wonderful! She also explained that her father is the chef, so we asked her to commend her father for the amazing flavours that we’d been experiencing which are absolutely delicious.
We also went last Saturday night, and again, we weren’t disappointed. We tried some different dishes (as well as the usual starters that we’ve fallen in love with!) and once again, were left amazed at the flavours, and, the outstanding customer service. So, well done Shuma and the rest of the staff, and keep up the great work!
Finally, the only recommendation we can give……….is to thoroughly recommend visiting the Chaat Haus.

By chance I was the first visitor destined to enjoy the arrival of other customers. First a family of five with a baby were welcomed with warm greetings and as the children settled, the older ones chatting about choices. All arrivals sparked further welcomes, greetings and conversations as another family with older children, a couple, then another couple arrive with a sense of having dined there many times before.. Chaat Haus the restaurant is the perfect experience, for any occasion, nicely tucked away in Bedford. Parking is next to the restaurant and access is easy for all. (Small parking charge applies - top up after 2 hrs I think).
Inside is stunning. There are plenty artworks, small statues, ornaments, gems and treasures to keep me entertained. The music is usually ambient, I guess dependant on how busy. Can hold a conversation nonetheless.
The food! Absolutely spot on everytime. These guys are no amateurs. We always have the plant based option and it has never failed. The tofu manchurin was once a recommendation, but is now a "must have" on every visit. I personally prefer the samosa chaat and my partner prefers the papdi chaat. Both delicious and can be made vegan on request. Most requests are never a trouble for the staff. Most visits are usually take away and the staff have always been courteous, always happy - like genuinely happy! Generous is an understatement. We often leave with more than what we've ordered.
The location is good. Easy enough for me to get there within 10 mins. Although, I think a lot of Bedford would order online if given the option.
Vegan yogurt still not used? 😉 Although, I've not missed it and the food has still been 5*... Finding the right plant based alternatives is a pain and then making sure it suits the dish is another headache. But a splash of yogurt on a chaat 👌
Definately recommend as a vegan. If you're unsure about the menu, the staff will help out. The chef is not shy to experiment if you have a taste for...
