Kings Arms Taunton — Restaurant in Great Britain

It has very much gone downhill since the new management team have been in place. Very busy bar last night but only one server on who was not particularly confident with the cocktail menu meaning long delays in service when a less than straightforward drink was ordered. Duty manager more absent than present and had to be fetched when the punters were waiting three deep at the bar. Should be paying attention to what's going on in the bar rather than hanging out in the kitchen. Bar and table tops were cluttered with empties, filthy and sticky as was the floor. It appeared the intention was to use every available glass and wait until closing before attempting any kind of clear up. Been going there since I moved here 3 years ago. I'm not going back. I'll be honest, I have driven past this pub a hundred times and never contemplated going in. I suppose the Sky Sports banners and football shirt-wearing punters smoking outside put me off a bit. Rowdy sports pubs are not my scene. But I popped in last week to watch the rugby and realised I have been missing out. Really nice atmosphere, bright and airy room, well decorated, very friendly staff, good ale, good food.... not much more one could ask for. There were a lot of TVs showing Sky Sports and the commentary playing over loudspeakers throughout most of the pub but it wasn't excessive and it's big enough to move away from the sports if that's not your bag. Amazing Sunday Roast at The Kings Arms – Highly Recommend!

Had Sunday lunch at The Kings Arms in Taunton yesterday and it was absolutely fantastic. The roast beef was cooked to perfection – just slightly pink, juicy, and piping hot, exactly how it should be. The roast potatoes were proper ones too – crispy on the outside, fluffy inside, just like homemade.

The staff were brilliant – friendly, attentive, and really welcoming. Considering the quality of the food, the service was impressively quick without feeling rushed. You can tell they care about what they’re serving.
