Absolutely wonderful! The nicest Indian meal we’ve ever had!
We’ve been on holiday in Devon and Cornwall and stopped off for a final night in Taunton to break up the journey before heading home. We really fancied an Indian for our final night and spent a lot of time researching where to go. There are a few Indian restaurants locally and all sounded good so it was a hard choice but Maliha and Taj was the one which initially grabbed us and the menu and food looked excellent so after a lot of deliberation we booked a table the night before and spent the day looking forward to it.
When we arrived at the restaurant we were warmly welcomed and given a lovely table near the window. We hadn’t realised before we arrived but there was a banquet meal night running (Sunday to Thursday) which was phenomenal value - 3 courses for £19.99 - a starter, a main and rice or naan! We were given complimentary poppadoms and pickle tray and the pickles were something out of this world! Every one was beautiful and extra special to the normal ones you get. I’m not sure what the red one was but it was absolutely beautiful! A great start to the meal.
We’ve ordered starters and mains for share as we couldn’t decide. The Chicken Aloo Chat was amazing, so flavoursome and a great quantity. The other starter we shared was the Flying Purple Pakoras and this was something really different but equally wonderful. It started well with the pickles and just got even better!
For our mains we got the Chicken Moris and the South Indian Green. Now both of these dishes were just phenomenal. We eat a lot of Indian food but these were both really special. Great sized portions and lots of lovely, fresh, delicious chicken. Both of them were excellent but the South Indian Green was very special indeed. Out of this world flavours. So rich, spicy and just delicious. The vegetable rice was also excellent, full of vegetables and flavour and the Peshwari Naan was one of the best, if not the best, we’ve ever had. Everything was presented beautifully and the service was wonderful.
We were so happy we chose to eat here. When you put it all together; the amazing food, the service and the ambience, it genuinely was the best Indian meal we’ve ever had! I just wish it wasn’t 300 miles from our home in Durham!
The service was perfect. We were welcomed and treated so well from start to finish. Everyone we spoke to was top class and we really enjoyed chatting to them all. Lovely people every single one of them.
The price for the banquet night was amazing too. £52 for 2 starters, 2 mains, rice and a naan, 2 big bottles of Cobra and poppadoms and pickles too! Amazing value for top class food and service. Everything about the meal was perfect. Wish we were here another night, as we’d definitely come back tomorrow!
Thank you to everyone At Maliha and Taj for making our final holiday night so special and just perfect. Hopefully we can come back again on our holiday next year as we’ll be talking about this meal for a long time. Perfection...

We ordered 4 main meals, along with rice/naan etc, but we were delivered only 3 of these, and 1 of the main meals was wrong.
I phoned the restaurant to tell them of the issues, and i wanted a decent refund for the fact our meal was essentially ruined (only 2 main meals out of 4) It was already about 25 minutes late- and they only offered a refund for the missing dish (after lengthy conversations/arguments with the kitchen). We ordered 'butter chicken', which we have had so many times before (from many places), but they then proceeded to tell me this white, creamy dish which had incredibly strong coconut flavour (essentially pasanda). Not what we expect from Butter chicken and didnt like it at all.
I asked to speak to the manager, but the chap insisted he was the manager, and refused to do anything else apart from one dish refund. If you spend £80 on a take away meal- you want to enjoy it- but thier attitude was shocking and rude- and actually didnt apologise once for thier mess up. We didnt get any refund because i had to hang up mid-argument and try and enjoy the food they actually did deliver.
Food was about 3/5 from what we had- but attitude and customer service was so bad, we'll never eat...
Read moreFantastic restaurant with a lovely ambience. The service here is perfect, down to earth, friendly and attentive, without being intrusive. Made us feel very at ease. the staff were amiable and courteous, despite us taking forever to make our minds up what to eat. They have a drinks licences but also, more imprtantly for me, they do alcohol free beers too. All served ice cold. As for the food, well it did not dissapoint, endless tasty melt in the mouth puppadoms, and an absoultely delicous curry. I had tha Taj Rezotti, and it was really good, nice thick tangy curry sauce with perfectly cooked mixed meats including lamb, chicken tikka and sheesh kebab pices. The sauce has some wonderful aromas and aftertastes with cinanamon and fennel coming through which erallyu complemented the marinated meat flavours. The sides where spot on too, a generous poertion of onion bhajis perfectly crisp on the outside and melt in your mouth in the middle, delciuous garlic naan (I can still taste this now 2 days later if I stop to think abnout it) and perfect pilau. thank you very much for a really...
