Disappointing Falafel – More Like Fal-awful

I’ve been to Manaqesh a few times before, usually late at night, and always remembered the falafel being solid — fresh, full of flavour, and a good option on a street packed with great Middle Eastern food. So when my friends and I detoured there on a Friday night, hungry and excited, I was genuinely looking forward to it.

Unfortunately, this time was a let-down from the moment we walked in. The staff were blunt and dismissive, barely engaging with us, and didn’t even ask what we wanted in the wraps. No salad, no sauce choices — just handed over as-is. It felt rushed and careless.

The falafel itself? Burnt and bitter. The bread? Dry and chewy like it had been sitting around all day. And without salad or anything to cut through the heaviness, the whole thing was dry, dense and genuinely unpleasant. The portion was also tiny. We ended up picking at the edges and giving up halfway through — not ideal when you’ve gone out of your way for a treat.

City Road has so many good options for falafel — and sadly, Manaqesh tonight just didn’t hold up. I don’t know if they were having an off night, but if this had been my first visit, I wouldn’t...

Went to manaqesh with my friends was served after 15 mins of waiting whilst it wasn’t busy, we then ordered food which took 30/45 mins to come, my food didn’t arrive so waited another 10mins until my friend asked where my food was, the waitress then gave him a dirty look walked off and spoke to the manager who then told me my order wasn’t ordered and the waitress looked at me as if it was my fault with an attitude whilst the manager told me my order didn’t go through, I then proceeded to share my friends food which didn’t taste great didn’t receive any apology or food, then had to go across the street to pay the bill then show the receipt which I gave to the waitress who continued to show attitude. A Must Visit Spot for Food and Vibes! After being recommended to check out Manaqesh, my friends and I decided to give it a try and I’m so glad we did! From the moment we walked in, the experience was top notch. The food was absolutely delicious, with authentic flavors that left us wanting more.
