I have been a long-time patron of this restaurant in Brighton and it breaks my heart to write this review. In the past, this place held a special spot in my heart and was always our go-to spot during our visits to Brighton. However, our recent experience left us shocked and disheartened.
Last week, when we revisited our favourite spot, we were met with an unpleasant surprise: the prices had skyrocketed. £33 for a meal (breakfast) for two felt exorbitant, especially when the food we received did not justify the hefty price tag. We all know the average cost of breakfast items, and what we got on our plates simply did not align with the premium we were asked to pay.
As the cost of living continues to rise, it becomes increasingly challenging for individuals and families to allocate their hard-earned money wisely. High prices alone are not necessarily the issue; it's the lack of value for money that leaves customers feeling disenchanted. When customers can find equally satisfying alternatives at lower prices, it's no wonder that businesses struggle or that fast food joints enjoy more patronage.
In an era where affordable dining options abound, it's crucial for restaurants to strike a balance between profitability and offering a compelling dining experience. Unfortunately, the restaurant in question seems to have lost sight of this delicate equilibrium. While it's reasonable for prices to increase over time, it's imperative for businesses to demonstrate that the quality, service, and overall experience justify the inflated costs.
This regrettable turn of events has forced me to reconsider my loyalty as a customer. I would much rather enjoy a meal at home than pay exorbitant prices for an underwhelming dining experience. It's disheartening to witness a once-beloved establishment lose touch with its customers and fail to adapt to their changing needs and expectations.
In conclusion, the rising prices at this restaurant, coupled with the disconnect between cost and quality, have regrettably driven me and my companions away. I sincerely hope that the management takes this feedback constructively and reevaluates their pricing strategy to ensure they remain competitive and regain the trust of their valued customers.
Brighton's culinary scene is vibrant and diverse, offering a plethora of alternatives for diners seeking quality and value for money. While this particular restaurant may have lost us as patrons, I encourage others to explore the myriad options available and support establishments that prioritize customer satisfaction alongside...
Read moreReliable, super spacious coffee shop with good food options and friendly, helpful staff.
Just on the edge of The Lanes and just off North Street (it's visible from the corner of TK Maxx), Trading Post Coffee Roasters gets trade from trendy locals and visitors to the city. On a weekday, laptops are open, lunch ladies are having a gossip and local workers are getting lunch. It's open early, and I've even popped in for an emergency glass of milk for my kid before we travel elsewhere for the day.
The premises are large, and there's also loads of space to sit outside with some excellent people watching opportunities. The coffee and food are good enough to mean this place is rarely empty. Add in helpful staff who are often very patient and helpful with my faffy decision making, and it's understandable as to why this is established and popular.
I personally recommend the vegan mocha cake. It's devine, and in my humble opinion, there's only a handful of other chocolate cake options in the city that are just as good. It was wonderfully soft with rich and decadent dark coffee chocolate - yum! The buttercream was whippy and light, a perfect contrast. If you need an intense chocolate cake collision in your mouth, this is where to make that happen. I did think that nearly £5 for a slice of cake was certainly only a treat for my budget, but probably doable for many others. Worth it though, and it was so big I had to ask to take ⅓ of it home with me. Thank you to the team member that went and especially cut a new cake for me because the other offerings on display weren't floating my boat!
There's all the usual options with coffee, and, as usual with Brighton, excellent vegan options. Its the same with the sandwiches and lunches on display, and on the menu. I've not had more than coffee and cake here yet! It's definitely on the list for lunch one day.
Just a small thing... It can get noisy when busy. The high ceilings and resulting space mean that for those of us with challenges processing sound, it's less than ideal when even just half full. For me, this sort of thing is super important when looking at leisure options for me...
Read moreToday was the second time I have visited this place and was shocked by the appalling service I received both times. The staff’s attitude was bad enough, but the manager on shift 25/05, behaviour truly took the experience to another level of disappointment. Rather than handling a minor issue professionally, the manager was rude, abrupt, and entirely dismissive of my concerns.
After speaking with the staff about discrepancy in the bill, the manager came over to our table. We politely began to explain the situation, hoping for a resolution. However, before we could even start, she abruptly cut us off, saying, “I understand,” and then proceeded to tell us that we should have ordered differently. She clearly had no idea as she was arguing the wrong point throughout and the receipt proved this. This dismissive attitude left us feeling unheard and disrespected. With having food allergies, I completely lost trust immediately that they knew what they were doing.
So instead of simply refunding the small difference—a straightforward and customer-friendly solution—the manager chose to argue and refused to take responsibility. Worse still, there wasn’t even any attempt whatsoever to apologise for the inconvenience caused.
Their refusal to handle the situation professionally and focus on customer satisfaction resulted in them losing my business—over £30. This incident highlights a complete lack of respect for customers and a worrying disregard for basic business ethics. This is already an overpriced establishment and lacking in customer service is not going to help the business in any way
I cannot recommend this cafe to anyone. If you value good service and being treated with respect, I’d strongly suggest looking elsewhere. There are plenty of other establishments that know how to treat...
