I would recommend the YHA for holidays because of its accessibility, good location, and comfortability. However, there are some features that were not that satisfactory and need your attention.
My day at the YHA was a pleasure. My family and I, my Aunt's family, and our elderly grandma were having a holiday in Brighton. With our large group: five young people aged 6-14 years old, four adults, and one old woman, we stayed in two 6-bed rooms. For me, it was a satisfying stay.
Firstly, this hostel has a lift for people with wheelchairs, like my grandma, and the disabled. This explains my satisfaction. However, the steps in the corridor on the first floor caused a bit of a problem for our elderly grandma. She had to get out of her wheelchair and walk a few steps with her walking stick. My father then had to carry her wheelchair to the room/lift. If you can manage to walk a few steps, I will still recommend this place to stay the night.
Secondly, where the YHA is located is another good thing. The YHA is located near the rocky beach and pier, making it easy for us to access these highlights. This means you can quickly visit the beach and nip back for a shower.
Furthermore, if you prefer to stay in your room, some rooms have large windows and face the seaside. These magnificent windows provide a grandstand view over the sea and have the extra benefit of keeping the room cool. However, not all rooms have big windows, and it entirely depends on your luck. For instance, my aunt’s family stayed in a room with a smaller window, and the room was relatively hot.
The room is also well-lit, with a light for each bed and a bright central lighting system. There are electricity plugs on top of the bed lamp and a small drawer to put charging devices in. The toilets have a light that will turn on automatically, so you don’t need to bother turning on the light. The whole bathroom is also very spacious with a large, comfortable bath for a relaxing shower after going to the beach. The shower is always supplied with warm water, so you don’t need to worry about unstable water sources.
As a mild source of enjoyment, there was a vending machine in the lobby when you wanted a treat!
For these reasons, I would suggest YHA for a short few nights' stay at Brighton for a large family holiday.

Read moreStayed here with 3 mates, had a 4 bed room to ourselves. Everything was fine until we came back around 2am one night to find a mouse in our room! Thinking we might be delusional , we waited in silence to assess the extent of the problem, eventually several mice appeared and started to skitter across our floor, our shoes and our bags. Upon further investigation we discovered an entire mouse nest under the floorboards. Naturally freaked out we went to the receptionist to ask if we could swap rooms and were met with resounding ‘No.’ - no apology, no surprise, in fact I could have mistaken her for a robot based on the sheer lack of any display of tangible emotion.
All the adrenaline from the mouse saga had worn off making me hungry, so I went to get food. I said goodbye to the same receptionist who may have been asleep as I got no acknowledgement of my existence whatsoever. There were no signs of mice (or robots) in the chicken shop round the corner, I joked with the bouncer that he could probably charge £60 a night if he put a blanket and pillow down on the bench seating; he didn’t seem too enamoured with the idea. When I came back the front doors were locked, so I knocked for a while. Finally the receptionist awoke from her aforementioned daze and looked at me... ‘how do I get in?’ I said, ‘...’ she stared, ‘hello? Can you let me in?’ I repeated, and she stared on, and on... and on, before turning back to her desk - perhaps her circuitboard had malfunctioned I thought. As the porch lighting is low it took me around 5 minutes of searching to find a sign explaining I had to use my keycard to get in, which I did. However I now faced a second enemy, the automatic sliding doors. Thinking I had it sussed this time I confidently swiped my keycard and walked towards the door, which didn’t open, resulting in a bang of the head and another 5 minute wait before I could get in. As I walked past reception, another mouse darted across the kitchen/dining area, I went to point it out to the receptionist but as my eyes met her dead AI gaze I thought better of it and went to bed. As I drifted off into my own slumber, amidst the squeaks and scratches of our newly acquired mouse family, I wondered if this particular Android was dreaming of electric sheep.
For me it’s a 1*. But if you’re a lover of robots and mice, ask...
Read moreI booked a hostel for a week as I had to do a course with in the first 24 hours I got told I could have breakfast then when going to get breakfast got told I was not allowed it as it wasn’t on my account even after getting it confirmed it was so went hungry half the day. I then left from my hostel in the morning asking if my stuff was okay in the room and if my bed would be still good when I got back. Once getting back after the day and got to my room I found my bed was stripped towels gone and a reserve sign on my old bed. I then went to front desk to ask what had happened they said cleaners went in and probably thought I had left even with all my stuff still on or around my bunk. I then get a new towel and bedding and go to relax for a bit after playing on my phone in bed I went to put it on charge only to find it not in my bag. I looked around the area and my old bunk sadly disturbing someone who was now in that bunk. Once we had looked for it I headed to front desk just to ask if it had been handed in. The manger on shift proceed to sigh as I asked him if it was there and then look on the computer. I said he couldn’t see it and there was nothing he could do till he sees house keeping. After this I asked if he could supply me with one temporary till mine turns up. He looked like I just asked him for his first born child as he finally presented me one. I went for a smoke and just was frustrated with the whole situation so afterwords I went and spoke to him again to be told it’s not his fault he hasn’t been told anything and he will look in to it later. Just in all his attitude was dreadful and It’s just felt like every little thing is to much of a inconvenience for him. I get that it’s not a 5 star hotel but a little bit of customer service would be nice and just being made to feel welcomed and...
