We dropped off our bags at 2pm as we were early. We came back around midnight where the security guard almost refused entry but I already had my booking confirmation up to show reception on my phone. He said it was because they just sold the last room to a family and everyone had checked in already. We were made to wait almost an hour whilst everyone was whispering about what to do, the guy behind the counter tried to make up another excuse. But we said we were aware youve sold our room, thinking we were a no show, we are tired please just tell us if we have a room or not. Or if you can send us over to the other brighton travel lodge. He then admitted and apologised for not being upfront and said we would get an automatic refund after our stay and that they will sort us out. Eventually we were given a room with single beds - not what we had booked. The key card also didnt work so we had to go back and forth and eventually we just said use the master key and we will go without a key card as it was so late at night. The bedsheets smelt like mouldy cheese, and the bathroom looked like it hadnt been clean. We were suspicious about if the room had been cleaned or not or if it was just an obsolete room. Surely not after the goverment had laid out strict rules for hotels so they could stay open but operate with safety of guests in mind. The next morning we noticed a pair of glasses and used ear buds/ cotton buds under the bed. The room clearly hadnt been cleaned, bad enough on a normal day but during a pandemic how could this have been missed. I am disgusted that they thought it was acceptable to do this to anyone. I left feedback on the website portal just so so TL group could ensure this hotel was being compliant in case it was just this one mans error i judgement with selling our room and assuming we werent coming. Which led to him giving us a dirty room during a pandemic. Since then i did not receive my refund, or any communication acknowledging the breach in restrictions. Numerous online enquiries were filled out, and phone calls where i was told they would prioritise my case. 3 months later they finally get back in touch, no one seemed to care about the breach or restrictions and initially refused a refund. I was issued a voucher, I continued to email until they refunded me just days a go. I asked to cancel my December stay as i do not feel comfortable and they have refused a refund. I also had a november stay booked where i got an automatic email to say i will get a full refund or if i respond to this email i can claim a voucher with a higher value. Of course i did not to do that. No refund was received. Dont book here if there is a risk you wont be able to stay or of another lock down as you wont get your money back. Book here if you think the virus isnt real as they clearly dont. Book here only if you have had your vacinne. Book here if you dont mind having a dirty room and terrible customer service. Contact me if you would like to see the photos we took when discovering how dirty...
Read moreThe hotel is in a great location with everything of interest being walking distance but also it over looked nightclubs on 2 side.
I was aware of the noise but after advice from trip adviser I asked for a room that was on the quieter side.
Originally I was going to be in room 511 but after asking for a quiet room I was moved to room 415 we walked into the room and was instantly hit by the smell of stale cigarettes and the window was open which in January should have been a warning sign that they knew that the room stank.
The room was clean but the bedding was visibly clean but stank of cigarettes and there was bleach stains on the carpets.
I thought at least they gave us a quiet room and because it was gone 10pm when we arrived I decided we would try and sleep and see if we can get clean sheets in the morning.
The room next to us started getting rowdy with the smell of cannabis coming room they room at around 11pm and at the same time the nightclub music started and that is when we noticed we had been giving a room that over looked the nightclub so much for a quiet room.
Around 12.30 I went to complain about the noise from room 414 as they were getting louder and playing music and play fighting and I think I disturbed the conversation between the desk staff and the security guard as I was given a very filthy look.
I was informed there was no spare rooms and basically told to just go back to my room and they will look into the noise.
The noise stopped around 1-1.15 not sure if this was investigated by the security or if they people in the room finally left for their night out.
I finally got to sleep around 4am when the music stopped in the nightclub.
The next morning we had a very nice member of staff help us change rooms and was placed in the room that we originally given of 511 this room was clean and quiet but the tv remote has maybe 3 years worth of grime built up on it.
We had a quiet night until a group of women came back at 4am and started screeching in the hallway.
I had noticed that this hotel seemed to attract non residents who was using the lobby to eat fast food and hang out while waiting for the queues outside the club to die down but security did remove them but it was quickly replaced by more. So maybe after a certain time they need a system that you can only get in if you swipe your card as many other hotels have.
I would not stay here again as I was left exhausted from the...
Read moreThe staff seemed lovely, which put me off leaving a bad review, but at the end of the day, it didn't hit the minimum standards I expect from a hotel - especially during a pandemic.
The price is great for the location, which is fantastic (if not a little loud), but the hotel is too hot and too dirty. We had to move rooms because the first was just too hot. I couldn't sleep in it, which is what I mean by not meeting the minimum standards I believe a hotel must meet. It must be, at a minimum, sleepable.
Given they've put fans in each room, they know it's an issue but they were unable to explain it. One member of staff said the aircon is broken. When we asked another when it would be fixed, they said the rooms don't have aircon. When we said to the manager how impossible it was, they moved us, which did make things easier. To be fair, I struggle to manage my body temperature as a result of my cancer treatment, so they were accommodating, but I'd love to know what has gone so wrong for a hotel in the UK to be hot inside while it's cold outside.
In the second room we had to have the bedding changed, after we found blood on both the bottom sheet and duvet, presumably from an injury by a cleaner. I'm sure it was probably an accident, but during a global pandemic cleanliness is vitally important. As someone who was been shielding since 2018 due to immunity suppressing cancer treatments, this was a concern. They did swap the sheets, and I would be more forgiving of this accident, if the rest of the room had been clean. The truth though is that it looks like the cleaner just has one rag and pushes the dirt around. In both rooms there were hairs swirled on the bathroom walls, at breakfast cups and glasses were dirty and cloudy, another customer said there was sick in their room and a sock left in their second room.
The beds are reasonable, the location is great and they did warn us about the noise due to nearby construction work from 8am - but didn't mention the noise from the clubs into the night. From the warning given, I figured yeah, that's fine; I don't mind getting up early. I didn't realise I'd be up late too.
All in all, if you're tired enough, you'll sleep. For short stays, I guess this is OK. Personally, I won't feel comfortable staying in...
