This is a difficult review as I want to commend the reception staff, particularly Igor and Rebecca, who dealt swiftly, efficiently, and pleasantly with the multiple issues described below. Clearly, they are used to troubleshooting in a hotel that is let down by poor management and an appalling cleaning service. Issue 1, our first room that had not been cleaned. There were discarded food wrappers, tissues, and other detritus strewn over the carpet, including a dirty sock under the bed. A robot hoover had conked out in the middle of the floor, presumably having choked on the other sock! Most disturbing was the strong and overwhelming chemical odour. I don't know what it was but possibly some sort of disinfectant? It made my chest feel tight and would have made it impossible to stay in the room even if it had been cleaned. Igor was appalled by the state of the room and seated us in the bar with a complimentary drink whilst arranging an alternative and properly cleaned room. We were also given a voucher for a complimentary breakfast. Issue 2, our key card stopped working, Rebecca quickly resolved this. Issue 3 no batteries in the TV remote control. Another trip to reception to see Rebecca, who managed to find some batteries. We slept ok, beds a bit lumpy. Breakfast was a very pleasant surprise. Lots of hot and cold options and cooked items piping hot and fresh. Although it was complimentary, it would have been worth the £11 charge. However, again, poor cleaning lets the bar/breakfast area down. The floor had not been swept or mopped. This really is unacceptable. This is a large hotel with over 160 rooms in an excellent frontline location. Close to the beach and all amenities. The rooms are relatively cheap, but charging a bit more to ensure good cleaning and extra staff would massively improve the experience. Come on Travelodge Management, invest in this hotel and support your frontline staff. Finally, get a decent cleaning service! Thank you, Igor and Rebecca.

I seldom leave reviews particularly negative ones. This hotel has the best location in Brighton on seafront however I guess it’s shameless to say that the experience with it was one of the worst. Very surprised to see so many 5/5 and my son told me to leave 1/5. More than three hours delay for checking in. One young man at the reception was very keen and tried to help as much but obviously it didn’t work with the whole crappy system, which is beyond his control. To be fair, we were immediately offered free breakfast without asking. However no coupon was really necessary when we were eating breakfast there because no one had time to ask. Too busy! Finally we got into the room and found the toilet flush didn’t function well ( due to water pressure as explained) but not sure should it be the standard of the city as even toilet paper could not be flushed away till we checked out so we had to reduce our use of toilet during the stay… The bin was left with a bit garbage from previous customers. Curtains fell so I fixed it. When we were casually asking for a late checkout for just two hours for the next day to make up for the trouble otherwise we would have to check out very early due to our schedule. We were told yes we could, only if we paid extra. Of course this is not the last thing. The assistant manager talked to me all the time when I was reporting, making me feel everything was so normal in this hotel and it was MY fault to by picky and complain! Pathetic !!! particularly for the premium rate it appears ( Saturdays standard for this location in Brighton) & the standard it presents. I’m to shallow to understand them. Besides, the street side is busy and noisy without a sea view for sure. The windows cannot be opened due to original design. It can be a serious downside if you prefer good ventilation near the sea.

Now when writing a review about this hotel I am taking into account the last two stays in Brighton, on one occasion in the Grand Hotel and on the other occasion in the king's hotel both located on the seafront. My first impressions was that I got better value for money in the Travelodge. The Grand hotel was over priced for what you get although it had the best and cleanest bedroom and bathroom and I only gave them two stars. As for the king's hotel this was a run down hotel and probably doesn't deserve any stars and I only gave them one star. As for the Travelodge it had a nice size room that had air-conditioning very comfortable bed but horrible pillows. It's a Modern hotel walking distance from the seafront and shops. It has a nice dining area and bar. I would have given them 5 stars but for the fact the breakfast although reasonably priced as the children eat for free was absolutely tasteless and the mushrooms and vegetables sausages were dry with no flavour, on the first morning breakfast the orange juice was weak with no flavour and on the second day it was very sweet. It was good that you can eat as much as you want but disappointed with the quality of the food. The room was spacious but they only do a limited clean in the morning which you have to request, they will only change your towels and replenish your tea and coffee they also cleaned your cups, but that's it so if your toilet was dirty it's hard luck. There was a radiator on the floor which could have done with a clean and one foot was broken, now if the cleaners were doing their job properly they would have pointed it out to the management. There was no chest of drawers to put your clothes in but there was a space to put your language there. If I choose to holiday again in Brighton I would choose the travelodge for value for money.

We dropped off our bags at 2pm as we were early. We came back around midnight where the security guard almost refused entry but I already had my booking confirmation up to show reception on my phone. He said it was because they just sold the last room to a family and everyone had checked in already. We were made to wait almost an hour whilst everyone was whispering about what to do, the guy behind the counter tried to make up another excuse. But we said we were aware youve sold our room, thinking we were a no show, we are tired please just tell us if we have a room or not. Or if you can send us over to the other brighton travel lodge. He then admitted and apologised for not being upfront and said we would get an automatic refund after our stay and that they will sort us out. Eventually we were given a room with single beds - not what we had booked. The key card also didnt work so we had to go back and forth and eventually we just said use the master key and we will go without a key card as it was so late at night. The bedsheets smelt like mouldy cheese, and the bathroom looked like it hadnt been clean. We were suspicious about if the room had been cleaned or not or if it was just an obsolete room. Surely not after the goverment had laid out strict rules for hotels so they could stay open but operate with safety of guests in mind. The next morning we noticed a pair of glasses and used ear buds/ cotton buds under the bed. The room clearly hadnt been cleaned, bad enough on a normal day but during a pandemic how could this have been missed. I am disgusted that they thought it was acceptable to do this to anyone. I left feedback on the website portal just so so TL group could ensure this hotel was being compliant in case it was just this one mans error i judgement with selling our room and assuming we werent coming. Which led to him giving us a dirty room during a pandemic. Since then i did not receive my refund, or any communication acknowledging the breach in restrictions. Numerous online enquiries were filled out, and phone calls where i was told they would prioritise my case. 3 months later they finally get back in touch, no one seemed to care about the breach or restrictions and initially refused a refund. I was issued a voucher, I continued to email until they refunded me just days a go. I asked to cancel my December stay as i do not feel comfortable and they have refused a refund. I also had a november stay booked where i got an automatic email to say i will get a full refund or if i respond to this email i can claim a voucher with a higher value. Of course i did not to do that. No refund was received. Dont book here if there is a risk you wont be able to stay or of another lock down as you wont get your money back. Book here if you think the virus isnt real as they clearly dont. Book here only if you have had your vacinne. Book here if you dont mind having a dirty room and terrible customer service. Contact me if you would like to see the photos we took when discovering how dirty...

The hotel is in a great location with everything of interest being walking distance but also it over looked nightclubs on 2 side.

I was aware of the noise but after advice from trip adviser I asked for a room that was on the quieter side.

Originally I was going to be in room 511 but after asking for a quiet room I was moved to room 415 we walked into the room and was instantly hit by the smell of stale cigarettes and the window was open which in January should have been a warning sign that they knew that the room stank.

The room was clean but the bedding was visibly clean but stank of cigarettes and there was bleach stains on the carpets.

I thought at least they gave us a quiet room and because it was gone 10pm when we arrived I decided we would try and sleep and see if we can get clean sheets in the morning.

The room next to us started getting rowdy with the smell of cannabis coming room they room at around 11pm and at the same time the nightclub music started and that is when we noticed we had been giving a room that over looked the nightclub so much for a quiet room.

Around 12.30 I went to complain about the noise from room 414 as they were getting louder and playing music and play fighting and I think I disturbed the conversation between the desk staff and the security guard as I was given a very filthy look.

I was informed there was no spare rooms and basically told to just go back to my room and they will look into the noise.

The noise stopped around 1-1.15 not sure if this was investigated by the security or if they people in the room finally left for their night out.

I finally got to sleep around 4am when the music stopped in the nightclub.

The next morning we had a very nice member of staff help us change rooms and was placed in the room that we originally given of 511 this room was clean and quiet but the tv remote has maybe 3 years worth of grime built up on it.

We had a quiet night until a group of women came back at 4am and started screeching in the hallway.

I had noticed that this hotel seemed to attract non residents who was using the lobby to eat fast food and hang out while waiting for the queues outside the club to die down but security did remove them but it was quickly replaced by more. So maybe after a certain time they need a system that you can only get in if you swipe your card as many other hotels have.

I would not stay here again as I was left exhausted from the...

The staff seemed lovely, which put me off leaving a bad review, but at the end of the day, it didn't hit the minimum standards I expect from a hotel - especially during a pandemic.

The price is great for the location, which is fantastic (if not a little loud), but the hotel is too hot and too dirty. We had to move rooms because the first was just too hot. I couldn't sleep in it, which is what I mean by not meeting the minimum standards I believe a hotel must meet. It must be, at a minimum, sleepable.

Given they've put fans in each room, they know it's an issue but they were unable to explain it. One member of staff said the aircon is broken. When we asked another when it would be fixed, they said the rooms don't have aircon. When we said to the manager how impossible it was, they moved us, which did make things easier. To be fair, I struggle to manage my body temperature as a result of my cancer treatment, so they were accommodating, but I'd love to know what has gone so wrong for a hotel in the UK to be hot inside while it's cold outside.

In the second room we had to have the bedding changed, after we found blood on both the bottom sheet and duvet, presumably from an injury by a cleaner. I'm sure it was probably an accident, but during a global pandemic cleanliness is vitally important. As someone who was been shielding since 2018 due to immunity suppressing cancer treatments, this was a concern. They did swap the sheets, and I would be more forgiving of this accident, if the rest of the room had been clean. The truth though is that it looks like the cleaner just has one rag and pushes the dirt around. In both rooms there were hairs swirled on the bathroom walls, at breakfast cups and glasses were dirty and cloudy, another customer said there was sick in their room and a sock left in their second room.

The beds are reasonable, the location is great and they did warn us about the noise due to nearby construction work from 8am - but didn't mention the noise from the clubs into the night. From the warning given, I figured yeah, that's fine; I don't mind getting up early. I didn't realise I'd be up late too.

All in all, if you're tired enough, you'll sleep. For short stays, I guess this is OK. Personally, I won't feel comfortable staying in...
