We arrived 10 minutes early for our 12:30pm booking. No one acknowledged us, so we stood in line while a young guy behind the barâclearly overwhelmedâdid his best. After about 7â8 minutes, we were finally told to just sit at the empty table behind us. Others had already seated themselvesâmaybe we should have done the same.
While the guy kept running around, we started planning our order: two starters, two roast beefs at ÂŁ26 each, maybe share a dessert. She drinks water, Iâd have two cokes. Roughly ÂŁ100 to eat somewhere with no front-of-house staff and everyone about to order at once.
Thatâs when we decided to leaveâbetter than paying premium prices for an underwhelming experience.
What really made no sense was seeing staff buy milk during service. The place had just filled upâwhy wasnât someone out front managing the floor? The guy behind the bar seemed to be talking to someone hidden out back. Why wasnât that person up front greeting guests, seating people, taking ordersâbasically offering the kind of service you expect when paying ÂŁ26 for a Sunday roast?
Frankly, you could go to Cosmo: the roast is solid, itâs all-you-can-eat, and the service is better. Weâve been in Glasgow seven weeks, and every time we passed The Whistler it looked busy. Today was finally the day we tried it. We walked away...
Read moreWeâve been here a few times and itâs always busy. Overall the staff are great and we have always been greeted warmly and with a smile.
Anyone who frequents this place regularly will be aware that seating is at a premium and itâs always good to book in advance, so I was delighted to get a table for three at relatively short notice on a Saturday night.
Unfortunately, the food did not meet our expectations which was really disappointing. On arrival we were told that two of the dishes were sold out and ,ironically, both of those dishes would have been my preference.
We ended up ordering the burgers. All three were really average. Mine was a chicken burger and there was more pickle than chicken, both the beef burgers were nothing to write home about either. All in all, a thoroughly underwhelming experience.
A special mention to one staff member who continuously ignored everyone on our table throughout when we tried to organise further drinks. Music was also far too loud, in such a small space is it really necessary when folk are wanting to converse? I love a good tune but it really was uncalled for. All the above, contributed to a sense of chaos and feeling that we werenât really welcome.
This is a great pub and we will be back Iâm sure but...
Read moreUnpaid invoices, and no contact. We were running the quiz nights in Whistler on the Green for a while, team numbers were good and everything seemed to be going well. The management decided to go a different direction with the quiz, which is completely understandable, but from that moment decided to completely ignore the build up of invoices that were unpaid and overdue for the services we had provided. I would suggest avoiding this bar if you run a small business or know anyone that does, they don't pay their bills and chasing this kind of debt costs huge amounts of money (without guarantee of pay), takes time and energy which most small business owners can't afford. We have offered Brian, the owner, payment plans and tried to keep the communication channels open but we have been completely ghosted. We know hospitality is struggling right now but it is bars and business people like this that make the situation worse for anyone who works with them.
Update: The day after this review was posted one of the invoices was paid, so they know about the amounts overdue. No communication around the rest of the overdue amounts. Maybe this is the only place they are seeing my messages, if so: If you'd like a payment plan, get in touch, we can...
