We came to Maggie’s Rock n Rodeo excited to try the mechanical bull. We didn’t mind the queue at first and just grabbed drinks and waited. But what followed was one of the worst-run experiences I’ve had at a venue.
The line moved extremely slowly. There were long delays between each rider, and the whole process felt unorganised. The girl running the bull barely engaged with anyone, didn’t explain anything, and seemed completely disinterested.
Several people visibly struggled to get on the bull, including one girl who was trying for almost 10 minutes while staff stood and watched. Eventually someone from the queue stepped in to help her. She didn’t even know the girl. That same person never got a turn to ride herself.
At around 11:50 PM, we noticed something wasn’t right. The girl running the bull mumbled something, but not loud enough for anyone to hear. I actually had to ask another girl what was going on, and that’s when I found out they were stopping at midnight. At this point we were almost at the front only a couple girls in front of us in line, and we had already waited over an hour, so we decided to stay.
They continued letting the people ahead take multiple turns, which felt unfair when it was already clear not everyone in the queue would get a go. When I finally reached the front, I was told I couldn’t ride. I explained I had waited over an hour and asked politely if I could still go, but was told no because the “insurance ended at midnight.” This made no sense, because the girl right before me had just ridden after 12. So either they broke their insurance terms or they lied to me.
A few of us were clearly upset and tried to ask why there had been no warning. Why didn’t anyone come down the line to let us know we were wasting our time? Why was there no cut-off? Why were people allowed multiple turns when time was running out? We received no answers, no apology, and no effort to make things right. In fact, the staff looked like they were enjoying the situation.
I left feeling not just disappointed but genuinely disrespected. This wasn’t just a case of bad timing. It was poor organisation, lazy staff, zero communication, and no regard for...
Read moreWe were in Glasgow for the day and wandered by Maggie's Rock n Rodeo and kept it in mind for somewhere to eat later on in the day. I tried booking online but there were only late bookings available, so after a quick phone call they managed to squeeze us in for some food within the hour. Maggie's is only a 10 minute walk away from the St Enoch centre and is located within the newly developed Trongate area of Glasgow.
It was a Thursday evening and I really didn't expect them to be so busy, the bar area was absolutely packed and the seating area rammed full of hungry diners all sharing wooden benches placed really close together. They also had really loud live music which made it difficult to have a conversation or even understand the staff taking the food orders. I understand it is a bar environment but with a seating area serving food, it would have been nice to have it a little quieter until the food orders had stopped to save people having to shout at each other.
I cant say we were all that impressed with the food either, it all tasted quite average and being packed in together didn't make for the best atmosphere. The pizza tasted like it had a shop bought base and the other food was just cheap and cheerful. We then asked for the bill and found they had included an automatic £10 service charge, we didn't have all that great of a time with the really loud music, being nudged and poked from every angle and then including the additional charges for us having to shout at each other from across the table.
It could have just been a bad experience or we might not of picked the best place for taking the family out...
Read moreI want to start by saying this review is absolutely not about the staff on shift, rather about the Management of the venue.
My other half and friends were sitting outside enjoying the rare Glasgow sun and had enjoyed drinks in the outside seating area in the Trongate (as much as you can enjoy drinking between beggars, First Bus Fumes and shoplifters offering their takings such as BIC razors and shower gel).
I left and came back with a friend to get a beer. Aside being taken aback by the price of a pint of Heineken, I was shocked by the fact that I had to stand for 10 minutes at the bar with 2 and a 1/2 pints for the poor lad behind the bar to change a keg. Not sure if he had to navigate the historic tunnels under the merchant city, or the fact that the bar is badly designed, my money is in the latter.... I enquired with a girl behind the bar and complained about the time, asking for management, though she explained they had to go downstairs, she explained she was one of the managers - not sure if duty or general, though there were at least two other groups at least waiting for drinks while I was getting served.
We got our pints eventually and they were a bit flat, I imagine the glass washer wasn't that great as initial pour looked good.
The price of most pints was over £6 which, given the quality, was pretty poor.
It's a lively place overall, though need more staff, attention to quality and could do with more staff.
Given it's about 200 yards from me I really hope they get away from cashing in on the weekend Primark boots and pink cowboy hats, and work on a midweek atmosphere, good drinks and...
