Hotel Ocean, centrally located in Great Yarmouth, is a lovely comfortable and stylish little boutique hotel (9 rooms on 3 floors– No lift) by the sea. With its beachfront location, it offers ocean views and easy access to local attractions. The hotel offers a shared lounge, terrace, and private check-in/check-out services,|We found the personnel at Hotel Ocean offered a great service, they were particularly attentive and friendly making us feel comfortable and at ease throughout our stay.|Our room (room 2 – 1st floor) was nicely decorated with a comfortable bed, mini fridge, free Wi-Fi, daily bottles of mineral water, and a flat-screen TV (no option to connect to Netflix/Prime/Disney, etc). Extras like a kettle with tea, coffee (including decaf), biscuits, and Green & Vegan Anyah Eco Spa Treatment shampoo & body wash in the private shower room made our stay even more pleasant. A second armchair would have been nice for added comfort, but with the existing armchair and desk chair, it worked well enough.|Our stay included breakfast at their onsite Box Tree Bistro which offered a great variety of breakfast options, we particularly enjoyed their full English, Egg Benedictine / Egg royale breakfasts and their breakfast fruit salad – Portions were pretty generous.|The Hotel Ocean Box Tree Bistro also offered light lunches, and evening meals, with options for indoor or outdoor dining. We mostly dined onsite as they had a delicious and reasonably priced menu.|Parking was hassle-free, with free street parking available beside or behind the hotel in Resident Parking Zone A. Simply giving our registration number upon check-in, the hotel arranged a visitor permit. We never had trouble finding a spot, allowing us to explore Great Yarmouth without worrying about...
Read moreAlthough me and my partner only ordered an "Artisan Sausage Roll" each as well as a fruit scone with jam and cream to share, I have to say I was very impressed!
As a regular customer at Gregg's, I was expecting something similar to the infamous sausage roll you find there... Instead, I was pleasantly surprised. There was a LOT of meat and the pastry was lovely and flakey. The sausage itself was completely gristle-free too which added a strange ease-of-mind which you can't even get from eating a Greggs sausage roll as even theirs have gristle/hard bits from time to time.
The Café Ocean has a higher price range than most, even the sausage rolls came to a fairly hefty total all things considered. However, I must say it is well worth the price!
The only downside I can think of was the scone, it was a bit claggy for mine and my partner's taste, quite hard to eat as a result. Also, the authentic pre-packaged clotted cream they provide was a bit too... Clotted - to the point it was extremely yellow on top, which is quite off-putting for me personally.
I think the option of a more easily spreadable and possibly homemade clotted cream would have been nice, or even another type of cream altogether - even if you would have to ask for it.
However, I absolutely love the cute little jam jar you get with it, I kept mine as a souvenir of our day out.
Overall, I am adamant on going back to try more of their menu, as to be honest we barely scratched the surface and from looking around at what other people had ordered, it all looks...
Read moreWe only ate, I could not find anywhere to leave a review for the restaurant. The food was amazing. The chef went above and beyond to help me with food choices as my baby and I are dairy free. We had the vegan gnocchi and added chicken. It was the best gnocchi/best dairy free meal i have ever eaten. My baby also enjoyed it. My other child, a picky eater enjoyed his tomato pasta, garlic bread and pancake desert. My partner had the lasagne and said it was delicious (waitress recommended this) we only had one problem, the waitress was so placid and appeared scared to ask another customer if they would mind moving for a minute for her to grab a high chair (the high chairs are stored next to one of the tables) she delivered our food and asked if we needed anything else, we said just the high chair so my baby can eat too please and she looked mortified. If she had of told me where they were I would have happily asked. The lady moved when she asked and was very pleasant so hopefully the waitress gained confidence with that. The waitress was very attentive and pleasant just maybe inexperienced, maybe first day or just super shy. The food was by far the best we have had as a family ever. Reasonably priced and the gnocchi was a large portion. 100 percent recommend and 100 percent will be going back when we return...
