PizzaExpress — Restaurant in Guildford

Myself and my partner went out for some food on a Saturday evening. At first we tried the Zizzis across the road, but they where only accepting cash. So we went to this Pizza Express and do we ever wish that we queued up to take some money out and go somewhere else.

When we walked in it seemed almost packed but they could fit us in. We sat down surrounded by families and although there where kids falling about and at times shouting it seamed OK, definitely not peaceful but OK. We ordered drinks and although a slight delay they came and where fine as we ordered our mains. This is where it all fell apart.

As we where waiting and waiting and waiting it became so apparent why it was falling apart, they where vastly under staffed both in service and the kitchen. After a while we got our starters that were good. It was enjoyable and nice.

Then we where waiting for the mains again, when they arrived my partners one was nice but mine was a small portion hidden under garnishing. No one came over to ask how the meal was and every interaction with the server she kept it too as minimum as possible as was walking with her head down as she knew that it was a bad experience. My meal took less than 5mins to eat and then it was an awkward wait until my partner was done with theirs.

We where trying to get the attention of a server's to get the bill but they where clearly trying to avoid us and could with the traffic and pressure from being under staffed. Luckily we had some cash on us and had to guess what the total was, left it on the table and then went to get some food of a decent portion size.

I don't think that we will be re-entering that branch if there is any other...

Kept waiting and poor service. We arrived at around 5pm and it was busy but not full capacity. It took a while to get some drinks and order our starter and once we had eaten that it was another hour before our food was even put in the oven. During that hour we asked our waiter if he knew when our food would arrive and he said no but he would check. 20minutes later we had heard nothing so a member of our party approached him and asked if he had an update. Response was "no". No apologies, no "can I get anything else for you whilst you wait" "I'm sorry for the wait". To be honest I think they had forgotten us because it was only on the third time of asking that they said "it's being put in the oven now". Again, no apologies. We got our food an hour and half after sitting down and it wasn't even that hot. (I would expect that had it just been recently put in the oven it would be piping). Sadly we didn't have time to enjoy a pudding as we had a 2 year old that now should have been in bed, a 5 year old and a 10 year old with school the next morning. Having had excellent service and very quick order to table timings at previous branches on numerous occasions we were incredibly disappointed with both...

I was totally disgusted with Pizza express Guildford last night for my birthday. 1st of all the chef's didn't wash there hands after going to the toilet about 4 times while being there and not when he got back to his station as I know of the one time as my husband was in the men's and he walked out with out washing. My husband Pizza came out with loads of black bits all over the bottom of his pizza from were the ovens hadn't been cleaned and they just did'nt look apatizing. the couple behind us had rotten salad served and complained and left there and then and when the manager told the kitchen that it needs to be sealed and rapped up they laughed at her! Felt sorry for her as she looked like she had been crying just after what had happened. A table was there well before us and we had our starters and main before they had even had there starters. My husband is an professional chef and he has never seen such poor hygiene! the counter was a mess food just left all over! never will go back. one in cobham is fantastic never would of thought this...
