We went here for my sons birthday,, I think the staff are trained at the school of I don't give a toss and I would rather be on furlow. The person who welcomed you ask for any allergies I said nuts and that was the end of that conversation, she said nothing about there policy on nuts. The waiter, we returned a drink what tasted foul, like cleaning fluid.,his response "oh' and stood there. We returned two starters because they were so salty you could not eat them, response from him" oh' and just stood there. Another waiter she bought out the wrong food for my son and told us that we was wrong and we had ordered it, unbelievable. My eight year old had to sit and watch the rest of us eat our food, this is not nice feeling for anyone. Next they seat a couple next to my eight year old who decided they wanted to sit on the same chair and start making out it made us all feel very uncomfortable, I thought we had gone to a restaurant, not a pole dancing club but maybe the loud music confused them. So Poor staff qualities, Drink that taste horrible, Salt poisoner in the kitchen, Lound music, Dark lighting, Two on one chair, Definitely did not enjoy had a banging headache for the rest night and thurst of a camel and I got to pay for the experience. Nearly forgot five items we asked for on the menu only to be told we haven't got. Not...
Read moreI'd always heard good things about Zizzi but I have to say, first time I tried it I was rather disappointed. The service was good, its was a Saturday night but not very busy - which I think says something but the atmosphere, ambience and setting is very pleasant. The tables are far too small but the biggest problem was the food, which apart from being a tad on the expensive size was not in fact very good. We started with a large calamari and mushroom brindisi. Both were obviously frozen and re-heated. Neither tasted particularly nice. Instead of some calamari rings they were twisted sticks in appearance, cold and extremely floury. The mushroom brindisi was terrible. A bowl of grey mush swimming in fat that had clearly been microwaved and rather than some lovely fresh bread it was a layer of soggy mess at the bottom covered in cheese and breadcrumbs with hardly any mushrooms. We then had 3 "Rustica" pizzas. Apparently they are stretched thinner to make them crispier and have more toppings, whereas ours was so thin and hard as to be almost impossible to cut, they were burnt around the edges and the toppings were almost non-existent. The only good thing was the Sicilian Lemon Sundae, which was to be fair very good. Sorry Zizzi but apart from some nice waiting staff it was not a pleasant experience and I cannot...
Read moreFood was mediocre. My garlic bread didn't taste of garlic! So wasn't garlic bread. My main (spinach and ricotta ravioli), did have fresh ingredients and had a lot of potential but the chef clearly wasn't competent enough to bring to life the ingreadients they had to any descent level. The pasta was on the thick side. I get the impression that all the ravioli they made had the same thickness pasta - mistake! When a filling doesn't need to be cooked (i.e. Spinach and ricotta) the pasta should be thinner as the cooking time will be less. Thus, my pasta was too Al dente.
When I make this dish at home I normally season the filling and add some nutmeg it brings the filling to life and excites the pallet. Clearly, as mentioned above, the chef wasn't competent enough to season/flavour the filling.
I would describe my dish as boring.
The ice cream was to die for. It was the star of the evening, fresh, full of flavour and some really exciting flavour combos. This brought my rating up a whole star (would have been 2 stars without my ice cream).
The service was bad, very bad. The servers were lovely but the kitchen let them down with the time it took them to make the food.
Would not return!
I think 2 1/2 stars is...
