Harrys cafe — Restaurant in Hastings

My first visit to this little cafe by the sea. Looks tidy, nice decor, clean tables, small outside space.

We were a bit late as they were closing in about 10 mins as we got there. We hadn't realised the closing time was early.

The staff member was reluctant.  We didn't feel welcome at all. The person took our order mumbling at us. Barely speaking. I got my drink from the fridge myself after she had not got it for me or brought it over to the table. It was all a bit awkward.

As we were eating the staff member was sweeping right round us . Literally about a foot away from my chair. Banging around us. Making it quite obvious she wasn't happy and wanted to leave in a rush. There was alot of raised voices even when just 4 people in there.

Nice chef gave us the food and was very polite , didnt seem bothered we were there late, just a happy person i think.

Food prices are a bit high for what we got. £8 ham egg and chips. The ham looked nice, could be from the butchers down the road but when i ate it , it was a bit to chewy and fatty. The chips were cooked well. The eggs looked like they had been put in a dirty oily pan. Cooked fine but the colour of all the dirty bits just not appealing. The beans have a strange tang, maybe just a cheap version that can be changed. when asked if we could have poached egg instead of fried we were asked for an extra pound to do it.

Small but enough room for at least 25...

Now then, I’ve visited this cafe many times over the years. Can’t say I’ve ever had unpleasent meal, the food is always cooked nicely, slightly over done, but that’s the way I like it. The service has always been friendly, its table service if you wish. Or you can go up to the counter and order. The little court yard is a little to close to main road, so you do get the sound of the traffic, only time that’s an issue is when you have a motorist that likes the sound of his own engine, then that said I expect the inside will hear that just as much. It’s very clean inside and out. Just 5 mins from beach, so like me it’s great for refueling and carrying on my activity’s, plenty of parking

I’ve only given 4stars on the food. Why, well I like my breakfasts slightly over cooked “eggs was running dont panic” but others may not, and if truth be told, I hate the sussages “that’s because im a fussy one when it...

AVOID! Ordered a £10 breakfast to find a long hair in the tomatoes, beans overcooked to mush, eggs black and crispy on bottom, 4 slices of black pudding cooked one side so mushy on the other and sausages cut in half. I asked why would you cut sausages up? He replied to make sure they are cooked properly. So he admits he can't even cook a sausage properly. What a joke, a complete mess he should cut all the food in half and throw it in the bin and close business.
