We have been talking about going to the comet for ages but never got round to it, until today. We called the pub to check if there was food being served and if dogs were welcome. I had a pleasant chat with I think the landlord who told me that the food was indeed being served and dogs are more than welcome. We arrived and ordered our drinks and they opened a tab for the food we ordered. We sat outside as it was a wonderful evening. The landlord then came out with our placemats, cutlery and salt etc. he then reappeared with several biscuits for the dog and then a great big chew for him. Our food arrived and it was great. The portion size was great and it tasted great. I will be recommending the comet to everyone in the area as a good old style pub that gives both good service and great pub food.

The Comet is a reliable pub for good, no nonsense pub food. We stay at the Haven Park opposite once a year, and always book into the Comet for a meal. This year, we went for Sunday roast. I called the day before to book a table, and was pleasantly surprised by how quiet the place was at lunchtime. A very straightforward menu was on offer - gammon, turkey or beef. A good sized portion with nicely crisped roast potatoes, plenty of meat, massive Yorkshire puddings, and lots of veg that were still al dente - nothing worse than overcooked veg. We were given a big jug of gravy, which was also good. The staff were friendly and helpful, and there was a decent selection of drinks on tap and in bottles. We'll be back again, and definitely recommend it for food!

Mediocre food, service from one member of staff (think it was actually the chef) was great but the rest of the staff were very rude and abrasive. We decided to wait for about 15 minutes before ordering food and just ordered drinks, however when it came to ordering our food, we ordered at 5.20pm and didn't actually see any food until 6.25. The server told us this was due to the restaurant being busy but we later overhead the owner and a member of staff talking at the bar approx 10 foot away from us saying that the server had actually forgotten to put our order through to the kitchen which wouldn't have been an issue if we were actually informed of this and had been issued with an apology. When the food arrived the cajun chicken burger was OK, not a lot of seasoning or taste there was more taste from the cajun mayo than anything and the curry of the day tasted like it was out of a jar even though it states on the menu that they use fresh ingredients. As stated the staff were very sarcastic and abrasive making very snarky and rude comments when issues were brought up and even when we asked for the bill to the point we gave up giving feedback. No apology for the wait or the quality of food. The glass and ice had an awful flavour to them (first issue of many). I'd avoid the restaurant to be honest, seems a very local like pub as the other table who's food had not been put through to the kitchen were issued with an explanation and apology but they were on a first name basis so...

Went there for meal whilst staying at haven site . .wish I'd stayed at haven site and ate ..girlfriend ordered the lamb chops.. 2 chops were served and my girlfriend had trouble finding hardly any meat on them...almost all bone . .had to ask for mint sauce ..she also had trouble cutting what meat was on there..as was given a normal knife when a steak knife should of been given...I had the fish and chips which I found very average batter was bland ..chips bland ..and nowhere near worth the 10 quid.charged .not once did anyone come round and ask if our meal was ok .. as for my girlfriends meal ..was disgusting that again they charged 10 quid for a few new potatoes and tiny bit of veg ..forget the lamb chops..what meat was on them was about as much just to fill an egg cup...also found landlord who served us unfriendly..and certainly not approachable....oh and as for the pudding menu ...about 3 items on it ...and last but not least..we left with headaches as on tv s was pop music...
