Made a reservation at the restaurant, for 10 guests to dine, on Sunday evening and paid a deposit. When arriving at the restaurant there were 6 other people dinning. We each ordered a 4 course meal from their Sunday specials menu. 70 minutes passed until we received our starter. A further 30 minutes passed and we had not received our main course. I approached the waiter and politely asked for our meals to be boxed up to take away as it was getting ridiculously late. The waiter was rude and started to lay the table with plates and persistently said that the meals will arrive shortly. A further 10 minutes passed and I requested again for our meals to be boxed up. The waiter was rude and unapologetic, whilst the other staff in the restaurant appeared to not care. Another member of our party complained to the manager about the slow service, and their response was that the restaurant had an influx of home deliveries today. Clearly the restaurant priorities delivering food rather than catering for groups.
2 hours after waiting at the restaurant our meals arrived in boxes. To our disappointment they sent us three bags with the food in and the sides (bahjis) were all in one bag. We left the food and walked out.
Unfortunately in my 2 hours I only ate a starter and some burnt Naan bread that the table opposite gave us because they felt sorry for us. To add salt into the wound 2 guests from a different party received there meal within 30 minutes of ordering and we saw one delivery man approx 8 times taking food out to people at home. I don’t think this restaurant can cater for groups, and their level of customer service is appalling. In summary I would not recommend this restaurant, and the way that the staff spoke to each other and their...
Read moreSHOCKING FOOD. SHOCKING SERVICE. We order a starter to share and two drinks to warm up. The starter , unfittingly and inexpainably named 'Ocean Platter' , enthusiastically recommended by the owner, arrives.
it's a small plate (a bit bigger than a coffee saucer) with supposedly two or three varieties of tikka chcken, fish , duck. but instead it really is nothing more than half a plate of shredded lettuce , a lemon wedge and then bits; the kofte not bigger than a small index finger. we barely had two mouthfuls each and it was gone. Unable to see or taste fish, or duck. This was £8.00.
Initially, disappointed by the sight of this most mediocre looking dish we had to request it be sent back but no mater what we said we were made to have it, under all manner of excuses and rebuttals which soon turned into an argument which went on and on and on.
ANY RESTAURANT WORTH ITS SALT WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT BACK - it would have cost them nothing and they might have saved the trade but the aggressiveness and refusal to accept both feedback and the truth (it really being very , very poor and grossly overpriced, maven as a starter for one) was unacceptable.
We DECIDED NOT TO STAY AND TO LET THEM HAVE THEIR WAY The bill . pennies short of £20 for two drinks and the fun-size, ridiculously named 'platter'.
Undeterred, we ended up at Ghurka Chef having a most amazing meal, with really satisfying starters (cheaper too), unique tasting mains and incredible service. We tipped the Ghurka staff 20 %.
Oh, and we didn't have to endure tacky...
Read moreI came in at the end of lunch service on a Sunday, and asked for 4 naans and 2 curries for take away, as I had nothing prepped for a late family Sunday lunch, which Indian food was the choice, bring a dish, drinks, have a laugh, cheating etc. I ordered Chicken Vindaloo and Chicken Tikka Dansak, 1 keema naan and 4 plain naan, done in 15 mins for collection from walking in. I must admit, I did like the décor, has a Hastings vibe, and I did steal a glance into the kitchen from the bar, which busy men with hats, it what looked a clean kitchen were cooking away, clatters and talking, it had that Real excellent 80's vibe.
Took the food to the gathering and shared it out and good grief, it was loved! Naan's did everyone happily after being torn up and shared, others daring each other with a dipped naan of Vindaloo for an unsuspecting person here, a 'taste this' of the dansak there. They were the first to disappear through their deliciousness...
I love my hot curries and a good vindaloo is a staple of an Indian restaurant, and my go to standard. If that is done well, then, normally, everything on the menu is a winner. And what I ordered was up high, close to the best I have ever had. I am going to go out of my way to get a curry here again, but I`m not too local, and a good curry house is slim and none round my way hard to find, this one...
