Popped in today, two of us for a meal - been loads of times and the food is normally really nice and service is great.
HOWEVER, today, one of the items ordered was a burger which comes complete with "burger sauce", which we took to mean burger sauce. It arrived with relish on (which is NOT burger sauce), so we kindly asked if we could swap the bun for one without relish on it and wed transfer the burgef to it. Simple request you would think?
The waitress came back and explained that it couldn't be swapped for a new bun. Seriously, what is the cost of a new bun? Its not like we asked for the whole burger to be cooked again?
We asked for a manager and waited 20 minutes for him to come out and see us (he was cooking for a large table, but in the meantime the meal had gone cold) - when he did finally emerge, he was nothing but rude, made out that we were idiots who hadn't understood what burger sauce was.
A full blown argument commenced in front of other guests.
After a heated debate and being told that the kitchen was too "manic" to be able to send out a new bun and "it wasn't that easy"?... he walked off and told the server to take the meal off the bill and add us to "the list" (We're guessing there's a quite a few people on the list.
The table of 12 next to us overheard the entire conversation and agreed with us that relish is not burger sauce (as did the wait staff), and that to deny the request of a bun at pennies was really pathetic.
We were told we should inform the wait staff if we don't want relish (which we would have done, had we known it was on the burger) - We informed the manager he should amend his menu to reflect what's actually on the burger.
Such a shame as it's always been very good when we've been before, but the first time we've asked for something to be amended it's been blown totally out of proportion by a poor manager - he really should be removed from this post and kept in a non-customer facing role as his customer service skills are 0!
Needless to say we won't be visiting again - all over a request for a bun with no relish on it.
Be aware! The burgers have relish on, NOT...
Read moreWent for lunch. My wife had seen a mushroom and leek pie on their online menu. On looking at the paper menu there was no sign of it. She chose the mushroom Brie and cranberry wellington. This wasn’t available!? So she went with a nut roast dinner. Unfortunately the nut roast seemed to be mainly rice, the veg looked as if it was frozen. I went for the £21 sirloin steak and chips. I asked for it medium rare. It came well done, the texture was like well cooked liver, yuk! Took it back to the bar. At that price I expect my food to be cooked properly. A replacement steak was delivered to the table, my wife had nearly finished her meal. Unfortunately this steak was also overcooked but not quite as bad as the first, closer to medium but definitely not how I ordered it medium rare. Not until I had finished my meal did anyone ask if everything was ok with my steak (second time around) my wife wasn’t asked at all. The chips and onion rings were nice as was the beer and cider my wife had. When I asked my wife how her meal was she said it was c**p ( but different words). The visit cost us in total over £40. For a meal that was on a par with Wetherspoons or the Hungry Horse. So disappointing, we won’t be eating there again, we’ll go to the Tin Hat about 3/4 of a mile away where they know how to cook a steak and have vegetarian food that is on the menu...
Read moreDecided to try The Railway Steamin Billy last night for a monthly meet up with a friend from Burbage who said it was a good place for food n drink. He was not wrong....we both had burgers, I had the billy burger and he had the ultimate stacker. I have to say this was one of, if not, the best burger I have ever eaten !! Served between a brioche bun with red leicester cheese , red jam, came with chunky chips and a small side of coleslaw and salad, was really good !!
A fine selection of ales and lagers, I had a pint of San Miguel and a pint of diet coke . The young waitresses were very professional and helpful and were a pleasure to be served by. The decor and overall standard of the pub was very nice, warm and welcoming and as we went on a Wednesday evening just after 7pm it wasn't too busy. Parking outside was limited from what I could see but I'm guessing you could park over the road in the Tesco superstore car park if push came to shove.
Lovely experience and personally, I didn't think the prices were bad for the quality of the food. Have a looksie at their menu on their website and get yourself down there , a treat indeed. Daz,...
