Chickano's Batley — Restaurant in Kirklees

Yesterday (Sat 4 March), as a large family we decided to order from Chickanos for the first time in a while. And frankly following our experience we won't be ordering from there again.

First I phoned up to place my order and said I was placing an order for 9 or 10 meals. This was interpreted that I wanted the pickup for 9:10pm (kind of late for an evening meal with the family!).

I corrected the guy (who in fact turned out to be the manager so that really set the tone for the terrible service I was to receive) and said that was how many meal I was ordering and could he let me know what time I should pick up my order. He said I should come for 7:45pm.

I took four young hungry kids to pick up the order and got to Batley Chickanos for 7:40pm. Upon arriving I was told, again by the same manager that my order was for 9:10pm and that I was a 'little' early.

Firstly, if my pick up was for 9:10pm why would I take four hungry and impatient kids to Batley Chickanos for 7:40pm (90 mins earlier)? Surely not to pass the time!

Thank goodness for an app called 'Call Recorder' which records all my incoming and outgoing calls. Listening to the 3 minute call again it confirmed that the manager has said to collect the pickup for 7:45pm. I really wanted this manager to listen to the call but he believed me anyway, apologised profusely and said they would make the order as quickly as possible, and would throw in some extra wings for free. (Hurray!).

As I tried to pass the time with the kids, finally our order was 'ready'. One guy did our drinks and chutneys. Another guy bagged up the order and asked about the drinks, even though these had already been done. And the same guy asked me if I needed to pay for the meal.

Now if I was dishonest, which I obviously am not, I could have said it is already paid for and I could have walked off with nearly £42 worth of food. I reminded him I needed to pay and paid for the order.

Now not trusting the staff at all, I pulled out the contents of the 3 bags and double checked my order. Order was for 9 meals as follows:

Out of the 9 orders (and our free wings!) the following 4 orders were missing! Just as well I checked at the Batley Chickanos store as if I realised when I got home, I would have had to call back again.

When I rushed to the front of the queue, and asked who was in charge, the manager who I spoke to on the phone, and who incorrectly told me that my order pick up was for 9:10pm instead of 7:45pm like he said, said he was ever so sorry, looked out back and pulled out a bag which he said was for me. He said he had told his staff that this was part of my order but they looked oblivious.

I explained that I could have walked out without this and would have had to call back. He apologised again. I then asked that he give me the bag so I could check the order. Instead he checked the bag with me but we were still missing a regular chicken wrap.

I waited again while the staff made another chicken wrap to complete the order.

Upon leaving Batley Chickanos at 8:40pm (a very stressful 1 hour ordeal!!), the manager apologised again profusely and said that next time he would make it up to me.

When I got home, to the family eating 1 hour later than they should have, you guessed it, all the chips and most of the food was cold. Especially the chips as they were barely edible but there was no point going back again to the store and then, assuming they could manage 8 chips without a mistake, that would have delayed our evening meal to 9:30pm or later.

Like I say when I left the manager said he would make it up to me next time. Well guess what, there won't be a...

We were served today by the lovely Ish, he went above and beyond to make sure we were happy. Now to the food we ate in and there were five of us together we had a fair variety of meals 4 in total. The original wrap was delicious with the yummy mango sauce. Another of our party had the mighty memphis burger and going by the giggles ( from a large scarey looking ,) grown man and the amount of times he wiped his chin I knew it was definitely a winner which he confirmed. The olds of the group had southern style fried chicken which I did ask for a taste of and I have to be honest , it left KFC standing. It was delicious and came with 4 different sauces. I had grilled chicken with chips, rice and salad oh my days it was mahooosive which put me off a little but that was my thing and not theirs, the rice had a kick but not unpleasant and the salad was fresh with yummy Pickles and lots of lovely crisp items.. ( no soggy lettuce here peeps) . The chicken was juicy and fell off the bone ( you are offered on or off the bone when ordering). All the meals came with chips and a drink, and then there was the added bonus of chip spice if you wanted it. So I can happily confirm the food was a winner winner chicken dinner. So what about the price? The cheapest meal which included a drink was just £3.99 and the most expensive was just less than £8 so for just over £25 quid we were all ( over) fed and watered . Atmosphere.. Clean and nice.

Service.. Very poor. Kid would speak low volume and so fast and had to repeat often. Didn't know half chicken came with fries& can be default yet ask if i want that! Food.

Waited 30 minutes for my order!

For a tenner you get mini baby chicken (not medium size chicken like nandoas or other places) i give it was nicely cooked and very well marinated in sauce. More for kiddies meal portion and size!🙄

Chips. Omg so tiny portion! Need to be double fire the mini chicken let alone for a medium chicken! Despite this nice crunchy not oily chips.

2 Sauce dips.. One has just couple drops of red sauce. The white sauce was filled to the brim. Very nice presentation bag with platic knife and fork that is uncessarily. Plenty of napkins and handwipe. But no salt and pepper.🤔

Tasty food but miniscule what you pay for. Huge shrinkflation. I'm not full as i would be with half chicken meal.

Despite this they were very very busy with do many delivery drivers coming to take orders or those came to collect orders they ordered online.
