This will be one of the few reviews I have ever written but I feel my experience deserves this. I will try to describe my experience at Kake Temptations Batley to the best of my ability.
I am an older student doing my extended doctorate and am trying to focus on things to get my thesis completed. My sister and her friends were going out and she forced me to take a break and tag along with her. I consider myself a very strict critic and was expecting very little to begin with.
We arrived at Kake Temptations and parked without any problems, although it seemed a bit tight (it always really annoys me when I have to wait for parking). We walked onto the decking area which was pleasantly painted with pastels.
I walked in and was very pleasantly surprised that this was not a typical American diner looking establishment that many new businesses are leaning towards. Everything seemed very well thought out to create an updated shabby chic look with a bit of contemporary and art deco mixed in.
As you walk in there is a comfy seating area that starts to make you feel at home straight away. The 3D wall tiles are a good fit and complement the reclaimed wood theme along with the chesterfields and absolutely lovely green armchairs.
Walking in, my eyes were drawn to a gentleman dressed in black sitting in the corner of the dining area working on his laptop. He had a authorative commanding presence and I knew straight away that this was the person in charge. He greeted people with a smile as they walked in and it was like everyone who walked in went over to shake his hand and pay homage which I found amusing.
We were given a minute to take in the varied selection on offer and then a lady in niqab came and asked us very nicely what we wanted to have and helped us with our order until it reached our table.
We chose booth seating as my sister and her friends wanted to take pictures. We got cupcakes, milk cakes, brownies, Bruce cake, jam sponge with custard and the chocolate ganache cake with custard. I am not really a fan of cake as I find them very sweet and usually dry. But wow, these were just amazing. The portions were huge(in a very good way) for what we paid, compared to other local establishments. I can not fault anything at all with the quality of the products on offer and even after I had sampled from everything we purchased, I could have still eaten more.
As I looked around the decor of the place I noticed little little details that had been worked in to embellish the character of the building, like the hand painted logos on the counter and booth areas, the mish mash of chairs and green chairs that flowed with the green armchairs in the waiting area. The small imperfections really accentuated the overall beauty.
Every 5-10 minutes the big gentleman in black got up and walked over to every customer to ask if everything was ok and if they needed anything. We were thanked for coming by a girl as we left which was a nice touch.
Overall I would rate this as one of the best experiences I have had and give the place 9.99 out of 10. I will leave a tiny bit out of 10 so I can visit again next...
Read moreFirstly I arrived wating in a queue for around 15-20 minutes without front house staff coming to apologise about the wait or informing us that the only cake available was either the chocolate fudge or the chocolate tray bake.
Secondly when I got to the till the waitress looked utterly clueless with no sense of direction. I mean weres the passion? I think if you want a business to go forward you have to have people with charisma and charm.
The were 2 cake options and the drink I had chosen was off the menu as they were out chocolate powder. It was obvious my disappointment but to think shes could have tempted me with other drinks. Seize the moment and try sell something else dont stare at the customer blank in the face.
I had chosen the chocolate fudge cake with custard and a Rafello brownie.
We waited around 9 minutes before the custard and cake were brought to the table.
Upon arrival it was noticed that portion of custard to the fudge cake was far to small. The custard was warm but cooled down rather quickly. I hadn't even finished my fudge cake and the custard finished.
The fudge cake was okay but not the best I've ever had and couldn't understand why the hand made "artisan" cakes tasted worse than shop brought cake?
To top it all the the rafello brownie tasted stale and like the fuge cake lacked taste.
I don't know if this was a bad night for them or this is how they run there business's I couldnt really say but one thing for sure is that if you you want your business to be driven forward and want customers to come back be attentive and show passion! Make your customers visit memorable. I understand you don't have things on the menu but inform your customer who are waiting.
When standing at the till I was visually irritated by this big black shelf when you look to the right with the workers handbags and paper work all out of place and of course completely clashing against the decor.
I think there was a gentleman who was working behind the counter and serving who seemed pretty clued up to the jobs he was conducting however, overall I did not see alot of attention to the sanitation of this dessert restaurant.
I was disappointed as you are hit with beautiful images on Instagram and outside the store and even the name Kake temptations had me pretty tempted as I love cake. If there's anyone who knows about cakes it's me and this was definalty not what...
Read moreI was recommended this place by my uncle Salim, he worked as a jug handle maker in India in the early 60’s and was a part time DJ, mainly for Jewish weddings and school discos at the weekend but for some reason he doesn’t mention this on his Linkedin profile. He is also a big fan of 1980’s Zorro, he still has the plastic replica sword behind the wardrobe .
The place has a rustic feed to it, almost like an unfinished construction site but then you realise this is part of the charm. Lovely comfy sofa on your way in, private booths in the back.
As soon as I walked in (somehow avoiding that comfy sofa that you feel like you want to curl up on) the presentation of all the cakes surrounding me was like a diabetic’s paradise!
I was served by a very chatty assistant behind the counter, I opened with greetings. I said Salam, how are you? Uncle Salim sent me, I could tell from the look on her face that she’d met my Uncle "Zorro" Salim. She replied, “I’m good but my back has been playing up today” I said “I’m sorry to hear that”, she said “thanks”
The conversation then moved on to gardening, I said I’ve had new turf laid in our garden and it’s looking better than it has in years, I showed her a picture on my phone, she looked suitably impressed.
Then we discussed Uncle Salim, Apparently his arthritis has been playing up in this cold weather so he’s going to go and speak to Dr Parsaad about the possibility of trying new medication. We both agreed that this was the sensible approach.
I finally ordered 1x Choc Ganache Traybake & Coffee to take away, paid by contactless means, safety conscious Covid-19 and all that. I ate the whole thing still sat in the carpark as I didn’t want to share this with the Mrs staring at me from the backseat,...
