I have been a regular customer for twenty years, who has always raved about Lalaās and introduced many friends to it. Having moved away to the Midlands, itās been the place to visit on every return with my friends. However, I can now say I will sadly never be going again, nor recommending Lalaās in Batley to anyone Went this eve and the food was still of a relatively good standard. Service was not as attentive as before and the staff didnāt really seem to care. We had to keep getting the attention of staff even though the restaurant was not busy. When the bill arrived we noticed that most of the prices charged were higher on the receipt than had been stated on the menu. So we decided to ask the waiter who informed us that the prices were higher than the menu as the menu was out of date and the till had been programmed higher due to āeat out to help outā. Clearly overcharging on during the scheme. That said we were visiting on a normal day (Thursday). On principle I mentioned that this was not fair on customers and at no point had we been informed that there was a price difference. He responded saying the menu is for choosing food and not for showing the prices of the items which I disagreed with and asked that the bill be adjusted to reflect what was on the menu. Which he refused to do so we asked that he inform the manager of the issue . He arrived back and rather than the manager come to our table I was requested to come to the counter to speak to the manager. I remained at the table and another waiter came over and rudely asked what the issue was demanded I go to to the counter to speak to the manager. I would have expected the manager to come to our table. I went over to the counter and the manager who knew that I was a long visiting customer (he was a young waiter twenty years ago) was extreme abrupt, condescending, and disrespectful. He rudely said that we have eaten the food and should pay for it at the price charged . I explained that in principle you cannot charge more than what the menu stated and I didnāt like his tone. He went on to accuse me of quibbling over a few quid and especially in front of my other dinner guests. I told him he was being disrespectful and I settled the bill in full as I was upset at being treated so badly as a long term customer. Clearly something has gone rather wrong at Lalas Batley and I or my friends will never return again. End of an era! Advice to customers, check your Bill carefully. Advice to Lalas, get your menu and till prices to coincide as well as staff and manager getting some customer...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMy sister hosted one of her wedding events here and we have been left with a bitter taste since.
Despite the venue being absolutely gorgeous from inside (stage area) - the management and staff really let down the whole experience.
We were told we could come the night before to set up desserts however this was later denied by the manager. He charged us Ā£50 from the Ā£250 bond he held, for the use of 2 tables (that had dirty black tablecloths on them) for us to use to display desserts. He claimed that he doesnāt allow private dessert displays and everything has to be in house yet he never discussed his own dessert set ups with us. Itās appalling that he charged us Ā£50 for a table covered with a dirty tablecloth but thatās what happens when managers are greedy and donāt care about the overall impression and reputation of their business.
The Ā£200 remaining bond itself was transferred 6 days after the event and only when I messaged persistently and called. I think itās very distasteful to hold onto a customers rightful money for that long, especially when he was very quick to ask for the deposit from us. Weddings are a hectic time, no bride has the time to be chasing after her own money.
The service on the day was less than professional. All young kids working on the night, who had to be told how to serve. When asking for refills, the trays at times came back half empty again despite there being plenty of food. The servers thought it was okay for our guests to eat a runny dessert off a flat plate. It was only when I complained that they brought out plastic bowls and spoons for our guests to use. Looked really tacky, the rest of the food was served on glass plates and cutlery yet the dessert was served off plastic bowls.
When I gave this feedback to the manager via WhatsApp, he defended himself by saying that this particular dessert is always served off a plastic bowl which I think quite frankly is a mockery. If it is the truth then he needs to fix it as it looks very cheap. £20 per head per guest is enough money to use glass bowls.
Used this venue for the first ever time to host a family event and it will be the last ever time too. Disappointing service. Iāve attached a picture of the stained black...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreDeserves slightly higher than one star, but to attract attention from the business. Attended a small wedding ceremony here. Shocked at everything!
The FOOD- i cant comment on the starters of chicken, potatoes and kebabs as I only ate the potatoes which were cooked and tasted ok. The mains comprised of chicken masala, lamb curry, brown rice and chapattis. The curries were watery and looked quite disgusting, unappetising, like they were being stretched to serve more people that intended for. The brown rice was ok. Standard, I think..not much meat but ok, the yogurt chutney was pleasant. The chapattis! Omg, and ewww, they were wet from thr steam off the plate they were plonked on.
The carrot halwa, again was watery like it was cooked really fast and the water hadn't been burned off.
Oh sorry, forgot to mention the starters, salad, chutneys didn't come with any serving cutlery so everyone was dipping their fingers in. Even the halwa, there were no bowls for it, and then I figured that's why the stack of plates were there
The only good things was that the dishes were continuously topped up, but there was actually no need as nobody was eating anything š
Now the service - They were all kids that had no clue what they were doing. There was a stack of empley plates taking up room on our table. The server came and dumped the rice on the tower of plates making ut totally inaccessible. He then came and landed the curries right in front of people's faces.
The aesthetic- Pretty, it's actually quite nice like any banqueting hall.
I felt bad for the hosts which is why I'm leaving thsi review. I'm sure they paid a fair amount of money when booking, so at least pr9vide a decent service.
If I was a bride/mendhi bride etc. I would NOT hire this venue.
Dear reader, trust me and go somewhere else, and ofc congratulations on...
