Giorgios Italian Restaurant — Restaurant in Leeds

Back to one of our favourite little restaurants for a valentine's meal. We have come here a couple of times before on the same occasion. We haven't been out in ages though, and it was a little worrying to see it so crowded, but a testament to how popular Giorgio's is! They had a few vegan items which was great; we had the minestrone soup for starters, a mushroom risotto and a fusilli alla donatello for mains, and mango sorbet to finish. Every single item was superb, from start to finish and the portions were generous. The sorbet was the best we've had in this country, on par with the ones we've enjoyed in Florence. Terrible service. 1 hr 40 min wait for a takeaway pizza that was originally told would be 20 min. When chasing up, floor staff said that the kitchen were refusing to tell them how long it would be. Both staff were rude and dismissive. Ended up comping the pizzas which was the least they could do but still a terrible experience as we had only chosen takeaway as my wife and baby were ill. Ended up being gone for nearly 2 hours just to get this order. Historically has been a lovely venue. Really bad experience this time, and incredibly poorly managed by the staff. My friend and I just spontaneously went there to see if we could order some pizza to take away. We gave our order from a distance outside, they made our dishes fresh to order and the quality!! Wow. I've lived in Italy for a year and the standard is just as good as out there. And such friendly service too from the owner, we felt really welcome as individuals. Definitely heading back for takeaway and I can't wait to dine there when it opens for dining in July!
