I initially gave it 5 stars but had to change my review for these reasons... I was very happy with the service and the vegan options available as well as the quality and atmosphere. However, there did feel like there was a slight tone of salesmanship going on. We were initially overcharged for the coffees (large as opposed to small)... We mentioned this and were told the bill would be amended. We were asked if we wanted a receipt as opossed to being given one, and on closer inspection, realised we were charged an unmentioned Gratuity Charge. This should be a voluntary tip given by the customer at the end based on the service received, not a hidden charge at the beginning. I would have been happy to leave a tip for the service and repeat visited, but I feel hidden obligatory tips are counter intuitive to good business and a feeling of authenticity, in terms of service and rapport. We noticed upon later inspection of the receipt we had still been overcharged for three medium coffees as opossed to smalls. There were no pricing on any of the items and the lady at the counter seemed keen to establish if we were 'tourists'. Upon reflection this felt as if it had an effect on determining the prices we were quoted for things and perhaps also the overcharging. Sales patter such as the 'price is normally.... But we' ll do it for this much' were to be taken only at their word, as we would have no way of knowing the normal price. All in all, I felt the friendliness, atmosphere and quality of the products was 5 stars, however, the undertones of salesmanship and hidden/over charging made me give it three. If tips are left up to the customer's discretion and prices are as they should be, this would get 5 stars and a better tip! Giving without expectation ultimately...
Read moreSet over two stories is this lovely little brunch spot in Wetherby town centre (which is also dog friendly). This place is very popular, when we arrived we had a short wait for a table, but were given a menu to look over whilst we waited. The menu offers a good choice of different breakfast and brunch items, and both alcoholic and non alcoholic drinks. We were seated after 10 minutes which was good as we thought it may have been longer! One thing that was annoying, is that a couple who were seated next to us 5 minutes after we had been seated ourselves, were served before us meaning they got their food and drinks first too, but this wasn’t a huge issue as it was busy and easy to lose track. To drink, we ordered a black tea and a flat white. The flat white was professionally made, finished with a heart decoration on top. To eat, we ordered; the fish butty, the fried chicken wrap and fries. The food did arrive quicker than expected, considering how busy the restaurant was. Unfortunately, we did feel that the chicken wrap was underwhelming. There was only one chicken tender in the whole wrap and the rest of it was bulked up by lettuce and quite watery coleslaw which was also a bit bland. The fish butty and fries however, were really tasty. We would have both ordered this if we’d have known the wrap was under filled and bland. Overall, despite the chicken wrap being disappointing, we would still return here if we were in the Wetherby area, the staff are friendly and did a good job of running a busy weekend lunch spot, the coffee was great and the fish butty with chips was nicely...
Read moreWent in for a sandwich for lunch as its one of the few places with vegan options. I sat outside in the garden at the back which was lovely, staff serving me were very nice too. My disappointment came with the food. I couldn't have my original order as it came with raw onions mixed into the salad and I'm unable to eat raw onion so I went for the next option on the menu. When I read what was in the sandwich i was unsure and frankly I should have listened to my instincts. The sandwich comprised of avocado, tomato, vegan cheese and was topped off with a couple of hash browns! The combination did not work at all and the flavour/texture profile was not pleasant to eat...although i did try! It would be better omitting the hash browns and adding either some rocket or crispy salad and maybe a thin slice of seasoned tofu or tempeh, crispy bean sprouts or make it into a burger using one of the many meat alternatives. The fries I got on the side were also a soggy and soft, although they at least had a nice flavour. I don't know who came up with the idea of putting hash browns on this sandwich but as I said previously it doesn't work, has too many carbs and I can only imagine the chef who created it has little experience of vegan food or obtaining balance in both flavour and texture. My only other disappointment was the only dessert option was a flapjack, which wasn't very inspiring either. Other than that Kofi and Co is a nice place to eat and I would call in again but only for a cup of tea/coffee and...
