As itâs a new business thatâs bound to have some teething issues, please donât see this review as being how they operate every day. From the other reviews Iâve seen, we seem to be the only ones whoâve had a poorer experience. We said we would revisit during the day for lunch one day.
That being said, this was our experience last Saturday:
A table for 2 was booked in advance and on arrival we could barely get through the door. It was ram packed with people all the way up to the bar. We didn't mind this too much but i was worried as our table was actually in the middle of this crowd and there were people using the table too.
We managed to speak to a waiter who tried to get our table for us but in the end some of the bar-goers gave us their table that they apparently didn't need. So we were seated.
I had to ask for the table to be cleaned and there was no drinks menu. We had our drinks and food which we enjoyed and they arrived within a good timeframe.
Where it went wrong for us was the communication. No one checked on us or came to clear the table despite continuing to walk past us.
We eventually spoke to the same waiter and ordered more drinks and asked for a dessert menu. The drinks never came and therefore our dessert were never ordered.
We must've been waiting an hour thereabouts and decided to forego the dessert, get the bill and leave. We were informed that usually people order drinks at the bar. Sorry, but we were asked if we wanted more drinks and we said yes and ordered, the drinks never came. Trying to shift blame onto us was very unprofessional.
It was a busy Saturday night, yes. There didn't seem to be anyone in charge from what we could see and the two waiting staff I could see appeared overwhelmed.
I definitely think in a place this small, there needs to be a better ratio when it comes to bar-goers and those dining in. Especially with staff. It obviously gets very busy which is amazing for our small town, but read the room and know your reservations.
As mentioned above, Iâm sure this was an isolated incident, weâd definitely visit during the day to see how it is. This was our first date-night in 3-4 years so we were just a bit...
Read moreAs a market town Wetherby generally has a dearth of decent places to eat. The Snug & Chatter is the exception.
We were going to go elsewhere for Father's Day but decided instead to walk into Wetherby to the Sung & Chatter as every time we've been it's been exactly how a nice place should be - welcoming.
At first I emailed to try to reserve a table for the three of us. Then I thought, "I'll try calling just in case." There was no answer as no one was in that early. I didn't leave a message first time round but did on the second call some 30 mins later. I then got a call from them saying, "We had a missed call from you, how can we help?" Impressive, I'm sure you'll agree, so I booked. About 15 minutes later they rang again but this time, "In response to your email and message you left." I thanked them and explained how I'd already booked. Some people might have gotten annoyed at the second call, I however found it super professional as, frankly, that kind of considered response is something NO eatery I have ever known has bothered to do. What's even more important was that all of that was done with a genuineness you cannot fake.
We had a great time, the beer is kept properly, and we all loved our food. We will certainly be visiting much more often.
An observation. Why do eateries persist with Sunday Roast menus? We always steer clear of Sunday Roast menus as, being honest, it's a boring as hell. At the Snug & Chatter the menu includes some items from the weekly menu (this is all we chose) and we'd love to see those alternatives expanded.
If you'd like to visit a Wetherby based eatery where the food is good, beer is well looked after and the staff make you feel genuinely welcome try the...

Abject disappointment at Thursday nightâs poor offering. I Booked a week in advance noting it was an event for three birthdays. We arrived on time (one member was late but we told the waitress weâd order anyway). We waited so long to order we had to abandon the idea of having starters. 2 hours plus after arrival we got some food. The elders and children in our group were beside themselves with hunger. Our order of linguine for two people had to be cancelled as there was none left, second choice of chicken skewers was a no go as none left. One memberâs steak was a dried out âmediumâ. When it came to dessert ordering, everything had sold out apart from 3 apples pies or ice cream. We had the 3 apple pies and ordered 3 ice creams - only 2 ice creams appeared (my brother had said to a waitress to leave the ice cream off the apple pies). I understand there was just one chef on duty - the poor guy must have been run ragged. Likewise the friendly apologetic but clearly frazzled waitresses did their best. All in all a dreadful experience not to be repeated. This had been a good central get together place of choice for family meet ups. Not any more. Appalling! Not our best...
