Strange this one... the welcome in this pub, last visited probably more than 10 years ago, wasn't what I expected.|Good - it has a Car park. Easy to find. It did a tasy lunch and drinks at "normal" prices.|BAD: Before we entered: We arrived after nearly 2 hours driving, to meet a friend who was coming some distance from the opposite direction. Planned to meet 12-ish, but our allowance for A1 traffic delays meant we arrived at 11.30. We parked and while waiting in the sun for the pub to open at 12.00 were sharply advised by a member of the staff that "We can't park Free" - There is a charge if we don't leave within 15 minutes of arrival"! So we left, waited elsewhere and came back at 12.00 - then parked. |Upon entering and asking "Hello, where do we sit when staying for Lunch?" were sharply advised "We are not serving lunch until 1pm. So if you are not ordering drinks please leave. We are not a free car park".|I thanked then for their clear and not welcoming message and asked for some drinks, explaining that we were planning to meet a friend who would also be parking. Begrudgingly, they looked at each other and said we could stay. They told us "the parking is limited to paying customers only, to 3 hours"... So I asked them to log the car in to the system designating us as customers - which they did, but just got bad vibes about their attitude. I suggested this was not the best "Welcome" we had received from Yorkshire folk. Most other places we have visited in Yorkshire "as travellers from another county" have given us a very polite, warm and friendly "Welcome", when we arrived and requested some service. But I worked with a guy from Yorkshire who could be abrupt, who advised me it was a Yorkshire trait to tell people the truth. and not wrap it in flowery platitudes"... so being told "what we could not do" upon arrival, was considered as just that.|Sitting with drinks, when our friend arrived, we asked at the bar when we could order lunch. "not till 1pm" was the curt reply.... and we discussed going elsewhere.|After other people - I think locals, known by first names, were able to order lunch, one of the staff approached us at 12.40 and said we were OK to order lunch. |After the "locals" - allowed to order before us - were served lunch, our food came and the food was "OK" - perhaps not as expected, but edible and had the flavour from the combination of factory products used to assemble the dishes. - My friend remarked that his "Chicken Nuggets in a wrap" were "soggy and soft, not the crispy texture" as he would have expected the coating on the nuggets to be.|So we ate our food, drank drinks, chatted and left - after 2 and 50 minutes of parking time! - Be warned. It is "not Free Parking!"|We...
Read moreAbsolutely ridiculous! Me (26) and my 25 year old boyfriend refused entry into here because i had no ID (he did). All we wanted was to eat some food after a long walk, no alcohol was going to be ordered, only soft drinks. Absolutely astounded by this that we could not even sit down or infact order anything before we were told to pull our IDs out??? A lady at the bar even said I look over 18 and that she would have served me (I am 26 for god sake)!! As soon as we put our feet through the door we were told we were not able to sit down on a table and have a soft drink and some food without our legal guardian. I mean come on!!! We didn’t even want alcohol how does that make sense? Never in my life have I been refused entry into a pub to eat some food. We are sat in the car now laughing at what has just happened as it’s absolutely ridiculous! The pub has lost 2 good paying customers and we are left feeling disappointed and discriminated against because we probably “didn’t fit in” as we were wearing walking gear. I don’t understand. I have not been ID’d in years, your staff need to be retrained properly as they clearly aren’t and also not to have faces like thunder being all judgmental as soon as you walk in the door. We haven't done anything wrong to deserve this. Now on journey back home 1hour long left hungry...
Read moreWent today for a family Sunday lunch. There was 6 of us, so we ordered in couples, at the same time with the same table number. One meal came out, we had to ask 3 times where the others were. 2 more came out 20 mins later, then 2 more after 5 mins. We had to ask about the remaing meal, and continously for more cutlery. They then brought 2 meals out. To be fair the meat was lovely, but there was only a choice of chicken or beef, however the rest of the meal tasted of chemicals. The young staff team tried their best. I asked to speak to the duty manager and was told she was also the chef. She did come out. We started to explain but she instantly jumped in saying that 2 meals were sent out at a time (which they weren't) I said about the chemical taste to which she said the veg was fresh that morning. Strangely the hand sanitiser smelt like the veg. She blamed the serving staff and basically was rude and aggressive in her manner which is not what you expect from a manager. We did get a full refund however it was the appalling attitude and being interrupted when we calmley tried to give some feedback. My advice would be avoid this place...
