Oba Korean & Japanese Kitchen & Bar — Restaurant in Leeds

OMG best restaurant ever! It was my son's birthday and he wanted to go for a meal somewhere nice last Saturday evening. He loves Ramen & I love Korean food, so we phoned up 2hrs in advance & were able to make a last minute reservation. I mentioned it was his birthday & he wanted ramen - they said that normally their ramen menu is only until 5pm but since it was a special occasion they'd make an exception for him. The lovely service only started there, when we arrived there were balloons & a birthday card with a voucher at the table. So sweet & considerate, especially with only 2hrs notice. The ground floor level looked busy but they'd still managed to squeeze us in. We ordered Kimchi fried rice, Bibimbap, Ramen & gyoza, Popcorn shrimp & very reasonably priced maki. Everything was absolutely delicious, freshly cooked & beautifully presented. I've eaten a lot of Korean food over 30 years & finally, a place in Leeds that matches what I've experienced in other parts of the world! Me and my partner came for a child free date night. The atmosphere was very relaxed & music on at a nice level. Seated very quickly & our server, Linh was delightful. She was very smiley & attentive. We had 4 cocktails (2 for £14 happy hour) they were delicious. They also asked if we would like them to come out one at a time, we thought this was really nice& it meant that one cocktail wasn’t going warm. Our food came out pretty quickly & was piping hot. The portion sizes were bigger than expected. We had the gyoza platter & soft crab rolls to start. Then I had pork belly kimchi & rice (wouldn’t recommend if you don’t like spicy food) my partner had Chicken yakisoba & a seaweed salad. This was by far the one of the best meals we’ve eaten for a while. Again, they asked if we would like our starters first, but we suggested it all come together. Our other server Addi was also just as pleasant, had a very nice chat with him about his life, studies etc. the staff didn’t rush us at all, they seemed genuinely pleased to chat. At the end I mentioned it was my birthday & the server was very happy about this & gave me a hand drawn card from the restaurant! Very nice touch. Will definitely be coming...

I was an exchange student from India studying in Leeds, and this restaurant quickly became my go-to spot. Located conveniently close to my accommodation and being someone who didn’t cook often, I found myself returning every second or third day. The food here is genuinely exceptional—an impeccable balance of spices, textures, and flavours that far exceeded anything else I tasted during my time in the UK.

Their mochi, seafood japchae, and prawn rolls are absolute standouts—each dish is crafted with such care and depth that they’re genuinely unforgettable. Over time, I ended up trying nearly every item on the menu, and I can confidently say everything is worth experiencing.

What truly sets this place apart, beyond the phenomenal food, is the warmth of the staff. Every single person was incredibly kind, welcoming, and always managed to find me a seat—even on the busiest days. Their hospitality made me feel at home in a foreign country, and for that, I’ll always be grateful.
