TAO Leeds Hot Pot & Cantonese Restaurant — Restaurant in Leeds

Had a great experience with this restaurant.

Came in looking for Take Out, thinking Google Maps had made a mistake sending us there, but they not only do accept take out (not for the whole menu) but there is a 15% discount when you do. I would recommend calling ahead of time to order over the phone then going to pick it up as it can take some time to be prepared. We just came in randomly so that wasn't an option for us but we were treated to some free samples while we were waiting (prawn crackers and a couple cans of a popular Chinese drink). The restaurant just opened a few weeks ago so the samples were most probably just marketing strategy (it worked as I will definitely get some of those specially seasoned prawn crackers next time). The owner/manager came to talk to us quite a bit on top of all that, really making us feel like valued customers.

The place was spotless. The decoration is very modern and really great, black and white with artificial plants nicely covering the AC ducts, not what you normally expect with traditional Chinese restaurants that tend to go with more aggressive red, gold and cliché decorations. The ambiance music was very oriental so you still feel like you're in a Chinese restaurant and it all smelled so good just being there.

The food was really good, we took the Dim Sum platter and I took some extra Char Siu Baos as well as a side of egg fried rice. The Dumplings were amazing and the Baos perfect. The rice was also cooked perfectly and all of it tasted great with great texture even after a 20+min drive home.

Definitely recommend. Going again to try the hot pot...

We came here this evening and had the most amazing experience! The cocktail I ordered was the Lychee Bellini. Sweet and fizzy, such a nice drink! Definitely order if you like lychees! Firstly, the presentation of everything was amazing. So much care was taken in making this look beautiful. The golden hotpot broth was our favourite, we REALLY recommend that one! The special dipping sauce was delicious too, the chef clearly knows exactly what he's doing. I loved the prawn wontons and beef rolls, and the king prawns were MASSIVE! My partner had the crispy pork which was so tasty and the chicken satay skewers too. Enoki and shimeji mushrooms were the perfect side as well as all the veggies. The portion sizes are HUGE! Especially on the veggies! So be careful with how much you order because the value for money is amazing. The staff were so incredible. Their service was immaculate, so kind and checked on you regularly, topping up the hotpot and clearing plates etc. It was my birthday and they sang happy birthday and brought a complimentary dessert which was this gorgeous fruity jelly like thing. Chris/Kris (I think that was his name) also offered me a birthday shot and brought out the most delicious lychee liqueur which was so thoughtful. Our other server (not sure of his name but he was quite tall) was so great aswell, all the staff were! We had such an amazing time here at Tao. Honestly couldn't recommend it enough! To start the service is IMPECCABLE, we came with a friend that had allergy and the staff was so cautious about what he could or could not eat, they even provided the menu and crossed off things that may have been a potential allergen.

Our main server was a older Asian man and he was super super friendly, took all our requests and provided us such an amazing experience with his humour and service, he did the same to other tables too you could see how great his experience with the restaurant was. Definitely a significant part to the restaurant!

Now for the food, the hotpot broth was said to be made freshly in house and made to order, we ordered the mushroom broth and the signature mild spicy broth, both were incredibly rich in flavours and the chefs letting us know there was no allergens in this gave us the confidence that everything was made fresh.

We went for the 12-4pm all you can eat buffet and it was sooo worth it! A huge variety of meats, of different cuts and flavours and also loads of seafoods and carbs too. All prepared to top quality and the meats blew other hotpot restaurants out of the water as everything tasted to fresh and tender.

Price is on the dearer side but I would definitely go again as I think it’s 100% worth. What makes it 10/10 is the combination of food, service and atmosphere. You can tell that the restaurant cares about quality of food and...
