i went to the pub quiz with a group of erasmus students and was very rudely and unfairly disqualified barely an hour in because we had gone on our phones a couple of times. i would completely understand if we were strictly not allowed, but i could see literally every other table in the room using their phones constantly too- yet they didnt face the discriminatory and disgusting treatment that my group did. im disgusted by the behaviour of the man who disqualified us- he didnt even let us say anything or state a case. he also disqualified us at a random point when not one of us was even on our phone and we were actually trying quite hard to get the answers amongst us. if you are going to disqualify a group of people with no warning for using their phones, then every other group should have the same treatment. its as simple as that. this behaviour felt very targeted and discriminatory considering we were not the only ones on our phones every now and then- and for most of the time i was there i was watching every group use their phones. it doesnt help that half of us were international students and couldnt understand half of the quiz, so were using translate to help. really feels discriminatory and borderline racist. just horrid behaviour from the staff that night. would not recommend at all. i am just so disappointed as i thought the fenton was better than...

I happened to be DJing at an event upstairs. I'm in my 40s, and it was the busiest night of The Hustings, of which I'm unfamiliar but it seemed to basically be "full on madness" night. I was a student once too, so fair play to the hundreds of students who packed every inch of this pub - at times my friend and I were literally pressed against the stairs, cradling our pint in it's plastic glass, which the absolutely-on-top-of-things staff acted as bouncer, crowd co ordinator, bar staff, and cleaner, all at once. Fair play to them.
The pub itself seemed the perfect place to chill on a night that didn't resemble the feeding of the 5000, with many small rooms comfortably adorned in that Old Skool pub vibe that our country excels at. Hope the staff had a good hustings - and check out their event listings for something you...
Read moreI love the Fenton, it's a great little pub, cheap drinks and frequently hosting live music nights. Popular with students due to the low cost of beer and it's proximity to both Leeds Beckett & UoL (it sits bang in the middle of the two!) and hosting regular quiz nights, it's a fun night out.
Good for pre-drinks for people attending gigs at the arena.
Smoking area is downstairs and very comfortable! Or smokers can stand out front with no problems, but I do recommend downstairs because it's very comfortable!
Doesn't serve food and doesn't accept card payments either but those points do not harm the overall great...
