A good proper pub. I went in with my daughter before going to see Fontaines D.C. at the O2 Academy just down the road. Nice atmosphere, friendly staff, no background music. The beer was kept very well, I had a pint of Black Sheep Bitter. It was excellent. We didn’t eat there, I wish we had but my daughter chose where we ate that evening. Any pub that offers liver & onions, mashed potatoes, peas & gravy for £9.50 in a city centre deserves my support. I want to go back to try it!

There are several good pubs tucked away down snickleways off Briggate so keep your eyes open. Whitelocks was rammed and The Angel had no real ale so we popped in here. Only been once before. There were 4 real ales available on a bank of six handpumps. It had been a busy day with Leeds Gay parade. Paulicarus chose a Greene King golden ale. Very pleasant. This is a traditional pub with lots of dark wood and leather bench seating. There is some outside seating in the alleyway.

I've popped in here a few times as I travel through Leeds and it's consistently great. Lovely outdoor seating area (with heating options for those of us from warmer climes), decent wine and beers, local WiFi which is excellent for us solo travellers, and a pretty cool snicket to walk down in order to gain entry to the pub. Reasonably priced, attentive staff... it's everything you need in a pub! The prices can’t be beat either, better than any other pub in town.

I am not one to write bad reviews of restaurants but today's experience has been the worst I've had as a customer and dear to say as a human. Every time I visit Leeds I've come to this restaurant as I love their pub food but today, an arrogant and extremely rude waitress, who boasts of having worked there 7 years, really spoilt our experience at this pub.

I am still in shock how a simple misunderstanding with the order ended up with this ridiculous behaviour, shouting and swearing to us in front of all the other customers.

She made absolutely no effort to make ammends, let alone apologise.

Worst waitress in the world. Congratulations

Superb place, excellent range of beers. Been coming here 40 years, though it's hard to believe that. If you are doing pubs round Leeds this is a must visit.

Of course, it doesn't take much for it to fill to the point of being a tight crush, but this genuinely is a part of it's charm, you will know what I mean when you go there. A real part of Leeds history.

There's actually loads of seating indoors and outside. There's always a tremendous atmosphere. Really friendly staff.

Toilets are upstairs, so not certain about disabled access to these. It's in a pedestrian area, so no parking...

Like the great Karl P. Once said I've never been to Australia but here are some of my thoughts on the place. A warm friendly environment just the place for a drink. It's well hidden in a back passage giving you that inner city experience while still being out of the way. famous for being called the ship inn while nether being a ship or in something 🚢 like. Apparently it was named after an inn that was on a ship, though not in Leeds. Go, have a great night and try avoid the human feces left by the...
