Didn't eat so can't speak there. Came for a gig in the downstairs area. Me and my sister are both disabled and arranged in advance. While the staff were lovely some aspects of accessibility were lacking. While upstairs the disabled toilet is located in clear view, downstairs it's in the backstage area, doesn't have many bars for support and also doesn't have a red string alarm. On top of that a member of staff has to accompany you to the toilet when you use it.
The lift is a nice touch, but the fact it also goes to the backstage area and disabled customers can't come and go freely isn't ideal. The disabled area was cordoned off and despite all the wheelchairs, mobility aids etc contacting in advance it was small and unfit for use, and right next to the backstage door which led to a lot of shuffling/squeezing. When asked by a wheelchair user if they could move to the opposite side of the raised platform or further into the venue, they were told "absolutely not" due to "safety concerns". This is where my frustration shines through.
I understand not allowing disabled folks in the pit to avoid injury. But shoving us all in a corner, refusing to allow us to sit anywhere else, making it clear that moving seats to try and let the wheelchair users behind us see the stage better would "block the doors", never mind the fact physical disability is not the only reason someone uses accessible features and we were positioned right next to the speaker. It's clear to me in the downstairs venue that accessibility is a rushed afterthought and that's disappointing. I also witnessed another wheelchair user be actively ignored because the bar is too high and doesn't have even a shorter section for disabled ordering. I had to wave someone down for them (as I use a cane so am able to stand for short periods). On top of that we had at least one member of staff sitting or standing right by us the whole time. I'm 22 years old at an indie rock gig I don't need babysitting. I honestly came away feeling quite infantilised and condescended by the accessibility conditions as I'm sure especially some of the wheelchair users did.
It's a shame because I'm certain this venue has the capacity to do better. Having a lift at all is already a big step up from lots of Leeds' venues. It's just sad that it's lacking in some major ways that makes it difficult as a disabled person.
Drinks weren't too bad downstairs, 2.75 for a pint of coke, 4.75 for my sister's single vodka coke. Could be worse for inner city. Gig itself was brilliant and staff were kind enough. The accessibility just really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBirthday bottomless was a shambles. Hands down the worst bottomless brunch ive ever been to. Staff were rude, had to ask for top ups and so many things went wrong. They brought the eggs Benedict without the hollandaise sauce. When we asked for the sauce they said āthey donāt serve theirs with hollandaiseā but their Instagram image showed otherwise. They were short staffed which I am completely understanding of but doesnāt excuse the rudeness. When we said we thought this was the worst bottomless weād been too, they responded āwell weāve got good reviews onlineā ??? Not for much longer and that doesnāt instantly make the experience better because of your good reviews. I chose here as they had good reviews! The woman with short hair and dressed in a 60s style said āI know weāre shitā which yes I are you are BUT you should never admit that??? When the bill came, they wouldnāt let us have a look at the bill. They kept telling us different what they had knocked off which only turned out to be Ā£10 in the end⦠should of got the whole thing for free. Especially the eggs not so Benedict. Therefore we was confused. As we all knew what we was paying each without the discount that they kept changing (as some paid deposit and some hadnāt so we was paying different) They wouldnāt give us a minute to discuss and was rushing us to pay even though I had the table for another hour. I kept calmly tell them. To which they said ādonāt you know simple maths?ā Which they clearly didnāt either as they were making us pay more⦠they just kept shouting at us and speaking over us. Never let me finish what I was calmly saying. I felt like at this point they were just making us out to be ādrunk peopleā when we was far from drunk when we had to repeated ask for top ups! Make us feel like criminals for wanting more drinks. So many snide and rude comments that were uncalled for. Such a shambles! Luckily I didnāt let it ruin the rest of my night. Sort your attitudes out! Terrible terrible service - the other two were dark haired male and Irish guy with glasses. Wish I took all...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis review is for the restaurant as the bar and bar staff are top notch. Went midweek with my partner before a gig downstairs, arriving just after 6. We ordered food and cocktails, and about 10 minutes after receiving our drinks we were told there would be a 30 minute wait for food (mac and cheese). Seemed a bit strange for midweek, and the waitress didn't seem particularly apologetic... considering the place wasn't even full they could have offered us a drink or something as a show of goodwill? Instead their manner was entirely dismissive, like we should be grateful we were allowed to eat there.
After 40 minutes our food arrived. We were concerned that we wouldn't have time to eat before the show, but were assured that we could have the food boxed up to take home. When we finished eating and asked to box up our food we were then told we couldn't. The waiter disappeared for 10 minutes before handing us a carrier bag full of Styrofoam cups (no lids) full of our food. They had literally smashed all the food together in the cups, mixing the vegetarian meal with the meaty one, and had got rid of all the toppings we had paid extra for! Surreal.
In all, the staff weren't rude but they didn't show any level of customer service whatsoever. The mac and cheese was alright, but bland, not worth a 40 minute wait and definitely not worth 11 quid with a few toppings. Cocktails were nice, but not enough to make me want to eat here again. Think I'll just come back for the bar's fab beer...
