I adore this place and their products!
I stumbled across it by accident when I needed to park to nip to the pharmacy but there wasn't a space up there by the bus stop so I had to park further down by the little paper shop. I got out of my car and was hit with this delicious smell and so I spontaneously went inside for a gander and ended up buying two lasagnas, two different desserts (lemon meringue and cheese cake), a bottle of salad dressing and a jar of dressing. Everything was delicious and even though I live 12 miles away I vowed to go back once a week.
Yesterday I went back and bought a box of mushroom ravioli, a herb and tomato focaccia and their own homemade pesto salad dressing rather than the branded ones I bought last week and I couldn't fault a single thing. I haven't had better ravioli anywhere, the dressing was so fresh and delicious (easily better than the branded one, by a long long way) and the bread was perfect.
I would urge anyone to check out Nonna Juana and let's please support our independent treasures. Our high streets are ridiculously full of big chain shops selling the same old sausage rolls and sandwiches, burgers and chicken, coffee and pastries. With lincoln high street alone you can visit the same chain in multiple locations on the same stretch, and this isn't food and drink that can match the quality of Nonna Juana.
If food tastes and looks better when the people making them are passionate and care about the quality, ingredients and the story/history behind the recipes, then Nonna Juana cooks from the heart for sure. This is the kind of food that just makes your belly and heart feel happy :)
The irony of me finding this place is that very day I'd had delivered a pasta maker and bits and bobs because I wanted to make my own ravioli. I wish Nonna Juana taught classes. I'd easily sign up.
Lastly, the service is lovely and friendly, the premises are spotless and I'm very much excited to work my way through their dishes.
See you soon...
Read moreFantastic price for the food and quality. But…. For me it was all ruined by Ai “art” slop on the walls. The poor choice to use Ai generated slop took the atmosphere from a 3/4 to a 1. It’s just a shame to see them put so much effort and money into the decor and furniture to only then cheap out with the “paintings” on the walls.
In regards to food it was phenomenal. Tasted fantastic, had a large choice and was priced better than anywhere else. But I will not be spending a single penny here again until the Ai slop is taken down. It’s a disrespect to the creative industry and makes any establishment that uses it feel like they don’t have the budget for a simple few paintings.
I know to the average person this won’t mean anything. But as someone who is passionate about the arts it drives me mad. When I visit other cafes I remember the decor. Stokes cafe has the unusual mechanical orca suspended above the cafe which brings around much conversation. I recall liking a photograph in Cafe Nero of elderly gents having a laugh together. Even if it’s a cheap stock photo or art piece it still tells a story and connects to the real world. The only story Ai tells me is “we can’t...
Read moreOne of the best places for food in Lincoln! The focaccia sandwiches are huge, delicious, and made fresh to order. There's a great selection, including vegetarian/vegan options, which is fab! Some of the sandwiches can be warmed up like the Pulled Pork one, making them look even more yum.
We've tried a couple of the baked goods from here too and everything has been perfection. The Alfajor is maybe my favourite. It's a beautiful shortbread like biscuit that literally melts in your mouth. The Dulce De Leche Croissant comes close second. Generously stuffed with a creamy caramelly filling, all in the most flaky pastry croissant.
I would also recommend some of the deli items. The lasagnas are beautiful, again there's a veggie option. The aioili, bravas sauce and pistachio pesto are absolute must tries too.
The owners of the shop are so friendly and welcoming, happy to talk you through any of the items. There's always samples out which is good, and usually you'll end up trying something you can...
