This was my 1st visit here ! Following the one-way sign instructions to head down the side alleyway passage route. Here you'll find a good size courtyard with numerous large wooden picnic style benches for outside eating along with the shared toilet building .The back door entrance shares access through to the takeaway located at the front & upstairs restaurant. On my arrival it was very busy ,infact I couldn't get a table inside so decided to return later on which I did & found the place very quiet by then . There's just 2 inside tables downstairs & around 6 tables of various sizes with another 4 counter top bar style tables with stools upstairs. Just be warned the staircase in this old building is very tight & twists ,Id class the seated area as cosy cafe rather than a restaurant! All the service staff on duty were exceptionally very welcoming & pleasant during the visit.I did order 2 Haddock meal deals which includes chips,a side, slice of bread n butter along with a hot drink,in Regular & Lite bite sizes .The hot drinks came fairly quickly but disappointingly the spoons were already placed in the mugs which doesn't help when using the sugar bowl with a wet spoon or give a great visual impression The food I must say was really nice ,good size fish, plenty of hot chips & tasty curry sauce.I can fully understand now why this chip shop is very popular with the locals. You do get the bill placed at your table with cash or card payments taken back downstairs. The staff serving upstairs must be commended for having to climb those tricky steps !

Having been here a couple of times now, I would highly recommend this place. There’s a takeout area in the front and a restaurant area in the back and upstairs. The staff were lovely and the the food great. The haddock is a good size, covered in a light but still crunchy batter. The batter is amazing. The chips are cut slightly thinner than you normally find in a chippy but it lends to a good balance of fluffy potatoes and crisp edges. If this is the food that is sent out consistently then it would definitely be up there as one of my favourite chip shops so far.

I sat in the restaurant area. It is small and could fit at 6-7 people from what I could see. Despite its size, it had lovely atmosphere and was incredibly clean. The service was polite and personal. This may have been because I was the only one sat. The food hit a high standard and everything looked fresh. The fries were clearly different to normal takeaway fish and chip shops. In a good way though. All condiments provided with decent utensils. Definitely go here for a quite high class fish and chips. Don't bring too many people though.

mixed reviews from myself and my partner. I have been using this shop since the early 80's but it has been a very long time since I last went due to not being local anymore. It is still as charming and oldy worldy as it was it 20 years ago. The fish and chips are excellent and the portions very good. It all tasted lovely and filled a much needed hole. The staff were very polite and friendly. On a whole it was a very good experience. obviously things change over time but some points we would like to raise are. my Partner doesn't like the skin on her fish so really you should give people the option. Mugs of tea are ok but we preferred it when you did individual pots etc.(old fashioned) We would recommend this place to anyone without a thought. Keep up the good work guys as uk traditional fish and chips is slowly being eroded and merged into other food areas ie burger and kebab shops with...

DO NOT EAT HERE! went in this week .. fish was under cooked , chips cold in the middle .. in my curry sauce i found a dark black hair. while i was eating i was sat down stairs it was ridiculously cramped and the waitresses kept bumping into my chair while i was eating the overly priced food. just to top off my awful experience i overheard the waitresses talking about eachother and saying rude things and swearing .. i’ve been in here a couple of times and know there waitresses names . i think it was very unprofessional and these waitresses need a talking to and a lesson on how to be professional in a work place. i heard the “owner” looked very mardy and not approachable at all . i noticed the floor was dirty and pots were towering over the sink . VERY UNHYGIENIC!!! this place needs...
