Steeped in charm and history, The Cardinal's Hat Pub is a Lincoln institution, having first opened its doors in the 13th century. We visited this venerable pub on a bank holiday Monday during a local festival. Expecting crowds, we stopped in for lunch and were pleased to find a comfortably bustling atmosphere. The pub exudes cozy, old-world ambiance with its dark wood beams, stone walls, and bowed ceilings. We grabbed pints of their hand-pulled local ales and IPAs at the quick and friendly bar. Settling into a table, we relaxed over our drinks while taking in the pub's character. A lone blues guitarist strummed soulful tunes, complementing the warm vibe. Patrons swayed along as they ate lunch. While we didn't dine this visit, the novel newspaper-shaped menu was stacked with classic British pub fare that looked generously portioned and appetizing. Upstairs, the Cocktail Bar would be an ideal perch for evening revelry. But even during our lower-key lunch, The Cardinal's Hat maintained its quintessential old pub charm. History seeps from every corner of this centuries-old public house, making it a must-visit for great beer and cozy atmosphere steeped in Lincoln tradition.

You can always guarantee a visibly warm welcome from any of the staff on shift. The staff have always greeted each customer with enthusiasm and care. They have a well designed drinks menu with a range of wines, beers and spirits available, all the usual plus the new and unusual. They have a variety of snacks and sharing platters available, I tend to gravitate towards the bread, olive oil and balsamic as I enjoy their rustic choices of bread. The upstairs seating area is a charming space that can accommodate large groups of people, but still have more private and quiet corners for individuals and couples. I particularly enjoy the choice of furniture, with squashy sofas, grand high back armchairs to sleek Scandinavian style chairs. The Hat's atmosphere is lively and comfortable. Downstairs has a more 'pub' feel, with high stools and benches. With exposed beams and what appears to be original window frames, you could easily believe the Hat to be one of the oldest buildings in Lincoln with all the charm and character that goes with it.

This was my 1st visit here, there's quite a few tables inside located in different areas but I ended going upstairs into a very nice lounge area to find a free table, also a few tables located outside to the front by the entrance for when the weather is nice .The Staff Service at the bar was Welcoming and very Pleasant when ordering our Gin & Tonic drinks & selected food. The table service delivery of our chosen bespoke cheese board was excellent & very informative of the delightful types of cheese & offerings on the board .The drinks were good & the food was very tasty ,a very enjoyable visit all round. From today's experience I will definitely be back again in the future when visiting Lincoln & would also recommend a visit !

I stopped drinking alcohol 9 weeks ago. Love the Cardonal's Hat so dropped in last night (Friday 27/9/24), asked for a pint of Blackcurrant & Soda. I was charged £5!!!! £5!!! Yes, I could have not paid and left but I like the pub and was in total shock when I paid. Two guys next to me bought two pints of beer/cider and were charged £10.20. I would have paid £10.00 for 2 pints of Blackcurrant & Soda. Yes, great pub, great ambience etc etc. So has the Wig & Mitre which 30 minutes later charged me £1.50 for the same drink!! Absolute rip off! Plus for that price, the gents' toilet seat is broken! Bye bye Cardinal's Hat.

As you all know i like my beer and believe me this is the place to go for the best pint in Lincoln, I had @brewyorkbeer fairy tale of brew York and without any shadow of a doubt was was the best pint i had this year, simply stunning. Also the range of hand pumps was massive, about 11 and a further 4 simply for cider, then a huge amount for keg beers and lagers. This is a beer drinkers paradise.

We had an amazing time here last night, a group of around ten of us. Found ourselves some seats and it was nice to be able to talk to each other, drinks were fantastic, the staff were amazing. The woman in this photo was especially fun and a really good asset to the venue, thank you for making it so much fun. I hope the secret office cheese was tasty!
