Edit: 13/8/2025 - I visited again about a week ago and the service has definitely improved! Staff visited the 2nd floor more often and communicated with me better as well as seeming more cheerful and talkative. I think more options were added to the menu too, which is great! I have therefore increased my rating from 4 stars to 5. Please keep it up!
Original review: I visited this café yesterday (December 5th 2024). I was excited to visit as a cat lover who can't have cats due to living in student accommodation. I booked an hour long stay and I liked the café overall, although I do have some slight criticisms too.
The furniture and aesthetics are good as well as the drinks. The staff were polite enough and the woman at reception gave me refund immediately for a festive afternoon tea thing I'd added to my booking, as you apparently have to book at least 1 day in advance. I think it'd be useful if they stated this on their website, but at least I was given the refund immediately with no issues at all.
This meant I only had to pay £15 instead. While the hot chocolate I had was free and nice, I had to pay for my food. This is fine but a little bit odd admittedly. However, I wouldn't mind too much if it wasn't for the fact that I waited 22 whole minutes to be served. I saw only 1 table on the 2nd floor where I was get served and it seemed like staff mostly stayed on the ground floor. I had to approach one of them to ask if I had to wait to be served or go downstairs. Only then did she take my order. Luckily it then came quick enough and the food was good quality, but they really need to improve on this. I saw 2 other customers leave seemingly for also having to wait a long time. It seems like there aren't enough staff either. They were at least helpful and polite though.
The cats spent most of their time sleeping, but that's understandable. I got to stroke a few and they seemed relaxed and happy. However, the café could do with stricter limits on how many people can be in at 1 time, as it made it feel more cramped and I worry that the cats might feel that especially. Also, there's a rule that you shouldn't stroke sleeping cats, but most people did that anyway, including one of the staff members. I stroked them too though and it seems like they don't really enforce that rule as long as you're nor actually waking them up and bothering them a lot.
As I left, some people arrived for a birthday party and a staff member made a noise with something for all the cats to go over. I understand it's for making the birthday experience even better, but it made it seem even more cramped than before to the point I could actually tell 1 of the cats that walked past me really didn't like it, as he reacted negatively to me standing next to him as he came by. He calmed down soon enough but again I worry that it's a bit cramped for the cats.
Overall, I liked coming here and I definitely will visit again. I think the positives outweigh the negatives, but there definitely need to be some...
Read moreWe had a very disappointing visit to the cat cafe today. First of all, i'd like to state that there was nothing wrong with the cats, the venue/location or overall business, it was the patronising and rude staff.
As a frequent visitor of cat cafes I was excited to visit one during my stay in Liverpool. We had to wait about 20-30 minutes to get in as they were fully booked - this wasn't an issue.
Once we were allowed into the actual cafe, we went over to one of the cats which was in a box and fussed it. A few moments later a child throws themself on the floor making the cat worried and scared. A member of staff told us "The cat is asleep give it space" when the cat was fine before the child arrived.
We moved upstairs and were looking at another two cats and were then told the EXACT same thing by another member of staff.
The final straw was when we were talking to others guests at their table with two cats sat on the table which were loving some fuss. Another member of staff said that we were "overcrowding the cats" when there was plenty of room around us and the cats had chosen to be there with us.
This took place within 10 minutes of our visit. We were extremely frustrated and upset as we visit cat cafes when we travel. I would only support the business by giving donations to support the cats as I do not believe the staff deserve my money when they speak to customers that way. It was extremely patronising, disrespectful and sarcastic of them.
We left a complaint with the general manager who is supposedly speaking to their staff, as it was simply unexceptable. We have been offered a free visit if we were to visit Liverpool again and we weren't charged for our visit. The lady at reception was very shocked and disappointed, she was extremely kind and respected us.
The staff should be ashamed of themselves as their attitudes were highly unprofessional and reflected a poor business model.
I 100% support the staff telling off customers if they were harming the cats or being unkind, but by making sarcastic comments 3 times in 10 minutes...it is completely wrong. As a cat owner, I know full well how to look after a cat and what they like, if anything children should be the ones to keep an eye on. We witnessed a child repeatedly touching a cats tail whilst it was asleep and they were...
Read moreAs a cat lover, I've been to a number of cat cafes over the years. This was one of the first ones I visited and to this day is still the absolute best in terms of experience and value for money.
You pay £15 for an hour of cafe time, and that price includes all of your drinks. They do serve food as well at an additional cost; which is a decent sized selection of toasted snacks and cakes.
The best part of the cafe; of course is the cats. They're all super friendly and an absolute joy to be around. A recent addition is the arrival of two snow Bengal kittens which absolutely made my day. I lost track of the time playing with them!
The staff are all amazing too. They're all very knowledgeable about the cats and very friendly; everyone I spoke to was up for a chat. They also make an absolute amazing cup of coffee which in my opinion tastes much better than high street brands... and considering you can order as many as you like in your cafe time as it's included in the price it's a bargain honestly.
I suffer from anxiety and depression and when I'm having a particularly bad time I always come here. The atmosphere is incredibly soothing and nothing calms me down more than being surrounded by cats. This genuinely is one of my favourite places to be in Liverpool. Thanks so much. :)
UPDATE: My last visit here was on my birthday on 17th January. It was this visit that I noticed coffee machines had replaced the freshly prepared coffee by the staff. I've had to knock 2 stars off food and a star off overall for this.
I will still come here for the cats and the atmosphere but if I wanted coffee machine coffee I would have gone to Wetherspoons. The coffee was so great before who on earth thought this was a good decision??
I get that it was probably done to decrease wait times but that coffee was worth it. These machines don't make it nowhere near as good and it just seems like a cynical business move to cut costs and hire less staff. I do...
