While the staff here are really friendly and there isn't anything wrong with the food it is far from a good restaurant and to be called a Mexican restaurant at that is more of a big middle finger to that country. The onlt thing on the menu that was even remotely mexican was the Enchilada as everything else was TexMex to the extreme using flour tortillas, rice, sour cream and Chili con Carne; none of which are very Mexican at all. I was hoping at the very least they would have some real chilli flavours especially when I asked for it to be hot but no, about as mild as a victoria sponge. Okay I get it we're in the UK where not everyone can handle as much spice but when it's asked for, why is my meal as still as flat as water? I really wouldn't recommend this place as it is a huge disappointment. The food isn't bad but I certainly wouldn't call it tasty or worth the price, anyone would be much better going somewhere else on Bold Street. This completely un-Mexican restaurant is summed up by the token (Bulgarian) Mariachi player out the front: super friendly, fine to listen to but not authentic and certainly not preferable over so many other...
Read moreHate doing this but just don't want anyone else to make the same mistake. Decor is lovely and inviting infact all seems well until the food which is sad as that is what we went for. 2 of us ordered from early bird menu (2 courses £13.95 we had a kids meal and a starter and main separate. Kids tacos... one big soggy mess containing the same ridiculous cheap mince as my 'authentic' chilli. By the texture I would say its frozen mince. The sauce was flavourless and the attemp of throwing sour cream over everything to jazz it up only adds insult to injury. The Mexican rice.... a simple enough dish for a Mexican restaurant you would think... nope its packet rice and not as nice as uncle Ben's. While waiting for our mains the waitress came over and asked me could she take our glasses? As in the glasses we were drinking from???? Iv never been so annoyed why would they ask to take our half full glasses. I told her we were waiting for our mains no apologies nothing. All in all big portions of bland food £83 for four of us which is reasonable but not for the standard of food or service....

La Parrilla is located in the middle of Bold Street and has been in Liverpool for a number of years and I finally decided to try it for lunch with my friends.
I went on a Sunday afternoon and they offer an ‘early bird menu’ which runs between 12pm-6pm on a Sunday. This offer consists of a starter and a main course from a selected set of dishes on the menu for £15.95. For certain items in this offer you need to pay an additional cost.
I ordered the ‘Authentic Mini Basket’ for my starter and the ‘Enchiladas’ as my main. The Mini Basket is true to its name, it tasted nice but nothing particularly stood out to me with this dish. For the Enchiladas I ordered spicy chicken but it didn’t taste spicy, if anything very mildly spicy considering it’s Mexican. I was a bit disappointed with the enchiladas but the chicken was nice and tender.
Overall, the service was good and the food wasn’t bad but not outstanding in any way. I probably won’t come here often as the flavours seem...
