The food was nice enough. Everything was extremely spicy with not many neutral flavours/dishes to balance it out. We enjoy spicy food but this just felt disproportionate. This may in part have been because for our 19:45 booking there were 6 unavailable dishes as they had ran out - this left us with no vegetable side dish options other than a salad. What was most disappointing was the service. I had written a booking note online when I booked which had not been read or acknowledged. We waited 20 minutes to order drinks and even, then had to ask. We waited a further significant time to order food. The waitress couldn't remember what we had ordered so everything kept going to the table next to us who repeatedly told her they had finished all their food and it was ours. We didn't have cutlery for ages either. We ordered some plain chips to add on because everything was a bit overpowering on chilli and they took so long to come that we had finished all our food and had the table cleared. At that point I told the waitress not to worry about it, if they weren't already cooked to cancel them. She proceeded to inform the kitchen of our delay who then clearly made them because it was another 20 minutes until they arrived - we did not want them anymore. They were not nice chips. Two kitchen staff members sat right next to us eating their dinner in coats - it did not feel very intimate or romantic for us. We then had to try to get someone's attention for ages to order a dessert. We had been sat upstairs and it definitely felt like we were forgotten about up there. A disappointing meal for my husbands birthday and our first major date night since having our baby. Wont be returning again...
Read moreBooked a table a few weeks in advance to meet up with some friends for the first time since before covid. We had to wait about 10 minutes before they had cleared the previous table, which wasn't a problem, but then they took a further 20 minutes to take our first drinks order. In the end my friend had to find a waitor to take our order - not ideal, but we could get over this and understood it was busy. After about an hour though - at which point we'd ordered lots of food and a fairly expensive bottle of wine, one of the waitors seemed to be eying our table and checking her watch. She then approached and asked if she could move another table next to ours as they had another booking for 5 in 20 minutes. We were stunned - explained we had not been told this booking was for 2 hours, but also argued that we had just ordered food and a bottle of wine etc. In the end they moved us out to the front, which was ok and we didn't mind so long as we could still spend time together. But after a further hour, another waiter came out to us with the bill and told us they were closing this side because they were not licensed past 9pm. This information isn't available anywhere, in fact it says they are close 'late' everywhere on their website and you can even book tables at 9.15pm. Our bill was around £150, so we ultimately felt rushed for the amount and time spent there. Not good or transparent service at all. The owners seem to be buying up a lot of Lark Lane premises, which is a bit of an issue in itself, but even more so when the ones they already run are not done so with care or transparency to customers plans and...
Read moreCan do so much better!! I'm willing to give this place another shot as it has a decent menu and is always busy, so I'm putting this to a bad day in the office!.... So all we wanted was a cheese platter and wine on a Saturday night, having checked out the other options on the lane Polidor was the only with 3x interesting cheese platters. It was busy but we sat and ordered, and waited.... First they only had one of the cheese platters available, ok so we only need one and sounded nice anyway. Then the wine and water... We waited and waited and had to ask four individual people until it arrived after about 20mins, while other people around us were being given drinks within minutes of ordering! Mrs was getting angry by this point :/ Then cheese arrived, and guess what, out of three cheeses they only had two so we had an extra of the other at least, no apology though. I also ordered the harrissa gnocchi which just tasted like normal tomato sauce, nice but not as good as it sounded. Then I ordered the fried squid, that was a disaster too! Soggy not crispy, and it came with mango chutney and samphire as I assume they had run out of the normal toppings, even the waitress apologised for this! So after that we just got the bill and went somewhere else for more wine, we didn't even get asked how the food was or a discount. Maybe the waitresses were embarrassed too?! Shame as the atmosphere was really nice, they had a jazz band playing and others seemed to be having...
