I drink in the Halfway on a regular basis. There are rumours that it is to be sold off. I can well believe it! On almost any visit, something is unavailable. Sometimes it's one or more of the popular beers; sometimes it's carvery products; sometimes it's staff(carvery shut at 5pm on Bank Holiday Monday due to lack of staff!); currently it is gas for the draught ales. For the last TWO DAYS(!), regulars are having to settle for bottled products. Not surprisingly, these are not being replaced and now, using Newcastle Brown as an example, it is no longer available. It feels like the pub, which is a local social meeting point, is being deliberately run down by the brewery to get its loyal patrons to drink elsewhere. The obvious reasoning behind this is, that, if the pub is to be sold, then any local MP objections at that time, will be countered by the brewery by stating that nobody drinks there and, therefore, it is not financially viable and needs to be sold. Shame on you Crown Carveries and...
Read moreWent for a few drinks and food after work on Friday and had exceptional service. Jackie in particular was fantastic, and could not have done more for us. She was so attentive and not just with us but with everyone. The food was amazing, we had the gyros, boneless chicken, garlic mushrooms, prawns, fries and nachos for around £30 for 3 people. It was all cooked beautifully, big portions and was piping hot. The drinks were insanely good, considering it was 2 for £9 for cocktails they did not skimp on the ingredients, I think they are the best drinks I've had in a long time! The service was fab and the atmosphere was great. The best part is there is music on but it isn't causing you to shout at eachother! I really appreciated that after a long week! I've been a few times and it's always the same (although Jackie really made this visit fantastic)! I appreciate all of the staff and will definitely be back! Highly...
Read moreThe majority of our party had the sizzling platters. Salmon on one chicken on a further two. All reasonably nice however very mean with the peppers that dish was resting on, broccoli was good. You could have rice or chips to accompany the dish. I would suggest too dry a dish for rice. The worst thing was the presentation of the tea and coffee. No milk jugs, milk serve in small whiskey type glasses. Sugar served in a mug which was the same mugs used for your tea. Asked for an Americano with hot milk on the side, they decided to put the milk in the coffee, why. Veggie burger ok, presentation not the best. Last negative 75p extra for the smallest ammount of mushy peas you will ever see, plus on the gammon meal it does not highlight the additional cost, on other meals it did Portions of a reasonable size. Value for money overall good apart...
