Today’s brunch spot was at @Applebee’s Fish in the centre of Borough Market, London.
The atmosphere was cosy and quite busy.
The waiters were professional and friendly. They even catered to a visiting dog by giving him a bowl of water.
Seating options were inside with a mix of tall tables or low tables or outside under the gazeebo.
There was a great selection of fish dishes on the menu.
As we were seated, we were served some tasty Olives and a selection of bread with garlic butter and a homemade olive spread.
For our main dish we went for the Luxury seafood platter (for two) which had a split lobster, scallops & tiger prawns, this was topped with garlic & chilli butter and served with a side of hand cut truffel chips and samphire.
The price of this was £125.
Our small table for two couldnt quite fit all of our food and drinks.
The main dish overall was a decent portion for two sharing and very tasty, the sauce really brought the fish flavours out.
The chips were not eaten as they smelled like they were fried in a funny smelling oil however, the samphire complimented the main meal very well as a side.
We also ordered some still bottled water and Lychee mocktails which were tasty and refreshing.
We went inside to use the toilets, there were two avaliable, one being a disabled toilet and abother close to the kitchen where a chef kindly directed me to because there was no clear sinage.
The toilet I used was failey clean however, there was half used toilet roll everywhere. There was about three rolls on the ledge which was a bit wet and one on top of the toilet tank cover. Mabye a checking system should be in place to ensure they are left presentable after some time. There was a dyson hand dryer avalaliable and some nice music playing from the soeakers in the ceiling.
Overall, we had a great experience and would definitely like to come back to try more from the menu.
Thank you for a lovley...
Read moreI told my wife that I was taking her to Applebee's for the American Mother's Day. I told her to trust me, but she was skeptical. What she didn't know was that this Applebee's was quite a bit different. This place was in the heart of Borough Market. The menu was amazing with unusual seafood items. We started out with an outstanding bottle of English wine from the Micro-Cosme vineyard. It was a Sauvignon-Viognier. For our appetizers, my wife ordered the brown crab rarebit with tiny shrimp and samphire. To make an English rarebit, toast a slice of bread brown on both sides, lay it in a plate before the fire, pour a glass of wine over it, and let it soak the wine up. Then, cut some cheese very thin and lay it very thick over the bread, and put it in a tin oven before the fire, and it will be toasted and browned presently. Serve it away hot. This one was excellent. It was topped with samphire, which is sort of like seaweed and is sometimes called rock samphire or sea fennel. I went with the scallops served three ways. One was cooked in roe butter, a second in seaweed butter, and the third in a sobrasada. For our mains, my wife ordered the shellfish tagliolini with crabs, prawns, mussels, and scallops in a bouillabaise sauce. I went with a delicious whole stuffed sea bream with curry sauce. It was stuffed with spiced potatoes. While we didn't have room for dessert, we did look at the menu. The restaurant was prepping for an evening event of some kind as they brought out lots of wines and a master shucker. The service was the best. If you are an American, you will treasure this experience at Applebee's. If you are not an American, you will have one of the best meals ever!...
Read moreCame in for a lunch today and had the most amazing time. Our waitress, Jemima, was incredibly attentive and helpful and her attitude was wholesome, the quality of service from her matched the standards of some michelin stars restaurants we have visited. Big, big thank you, you superstar!
The food was great, pretty much all of the plates were made to very high standard, but the sea bass ceviche is certainly a standout. Incredible flavour and freshness with beautiful presentation too!
The £1 oysters were super fresh, with good creaminess and minerality to them, although many of them had large shell pieces chipped in. I didn’t really mind - I know it’s a steal to get oysters this nice for this price and with the volume that must be shucked things might not be perfect - and they don’t need to be! Just be careful.
The few things that were not so great is that the what seems like management (both gentlemen working during this shift) really didn’t upheld to the same standard as the waitresses did (and all three waitresses we interacted with were great). There was minimum care put by them when interacting with us, and we were outright ignored when we said goodbye when leaving - just received "a look”, not the best way to finish a meal, but oh well.
Another thing was chefs outright eating while cooking - and I don’t mean tasting the food, straight up putting prawns in their mouth with hands and not washing them afterwards and calling for food runners with full mouth. Bit off putting when it’s open kitchen…
Overall, it’s still a 5/5 - for food and Jemima and the sustainably they aim for when it...
